Pope Francis on Thursday urged lawmakers to ensure that health care laws protect the common good, decrying the fact that in many places only the privileged can afford sophisticated medical treatments.
The comments came as U.S. lawmakers in Washington, D.C., have been debating how to overhaul the nations health insurance laws.
In a message to a medical association meeting at the Vatican, Francis expressed dismay at what he called a tendency toward growing inequality in health care. He said in wealthier countries, health care access risks being more dependent on peoples money than on their need for treatment. [ ]
Without citing any countries, Francis said health care laws must take a broad and comprehensive view of what most effectively promotes the common good in each situation, including looking out for societys most vulnerable people.

Says a man who has never paid a penny towards food, housing, clothing, benefits or transportation in his life.
You handle the Vatican, we’ll take care of the United States.
I think he’s working out of the bounds of his competence.
We should protect as many as we can as best we can.
To protect all is not possible. To protect them with this or that governmental approach is outside his competence.
Is he speaking to the govt of Mexico?
The elites there get pretty good healthcare
> You handle the Vatican... <
And here’s how he handles the Vatican. It is next to impossible to get Vatican citizenship. Oh yes, you can visit for a couple of hours. But then out you go.
I’ll take Francis seriously when he opens up the Vatican to thousands of immigrants. After all, there is plenty of space in the Vatican gardens for high-rise apartments.
Let ‘em in, Frankie. Give them all citizenship, housing, and health care. Then I’ll take you seriously.
How about resurrecting religious life, and with it breathing new life into the medical orders. That is how the Church has traditionally contributed. You know nothing’s getting done when talk is all you hear.
Bring back God’s Geese.
Pony up, Bergoglio.
Yes, have truly Catholic hospitals like the old days!
Yo! Red Frank! How about you put away that copy of ‘Das Kapital’ and focus on your real job, which is leading Jesus’ church? Or is that too much to ask from the spiritual heir of Saint Peter?
This pope is an a$$
This man is a full-on Marxist.
Now, there’s an idea for all the Vatican’s gold hoards.
Probably true, but the United States is not one of them. I know a couple who, between the two of them, go to the emergency room about 20-25 times per year and they pay......nothing.
well that’s easy for the Catholic church to say. Maybe they can set an example by providing health care for all their members, kinda like a union does?
The commie pope speaks....
Ok, fine...heres the solution: The Vatican will open its bountiful treasury and give all its money to Health and Human Services. Without this, its evident hes a fraud.
and colleges, and high schools, and elementary schools
