As with many here, I fail to see the downside.
This is not Vince Lombardi’s football game.
This is a hijacked, highdollar industry designed to use sports fans as political tools.
It’s called Soldier Field for a reason.
I agree that this is a good thing but, there are tons of people, even here on FR, that still think NFL football is more important than their country’s anthem and flag. I believe that if you are still watching NFL football at this point, you agree with them.
Wonder if any of these morons noticed nobody is watching.
Here is the really devastating thing for the NFL:
A lot of those people you see in the stands today are there because a season ticket holder gave them the ticket because they didn’t want to patronize the traitors, and another bunch bought their tickets second-hand online for less than $10 because it is the first time they have ever been able to afford a football game.
Next season, a lot of those season tickets holders are simply not going to pony up, and non-season ticket sales will require a severe drop in price to get closer to current market pricing and demand.
With fewer people attending, and fewer people watching, the networks are going to lose revenue on their advertising pricing, and they are going to demand a huge price drop in NFL rights the next time the contracts come up. The networks will also spend less money promoting and covering it, starting a downward death spiral.
Several years from now, the NFL will write their own “What Happened?” book when owners start refusing to sign huge player contracts, players revolt even more, and the league turns into the big gridiron version of Arena Football.
I have a buddy that has held season tickets for the 49ers for 20+ years.
He paid an obscene amount to keep those seats when the 49ers moved to Levi stadium in Santa Clara.
He almost broke out in tears describing the half empty stadium this year and last.
Last week he told me the seats he paid $600 for were selling on the internet for $90.
Feel bad for him...hopefully he will quit it next year.
The seats are all sold - there is an 8 year waiting list for Bears Season Tickets - 10 years for the Luxury Boxes. Good to see a half empty Soldier Field, but the NFL still gets the money.

I find these “empty stadium” pictures dubious. If you go to a game, right at after kickoff or halftime you can see empty seats because people are still milling around on the concourse. There is never a description of the time the pix were taken. I’d like to see pix taken in the middle of the 2nd quarter to really see if they are empty or not.

The games lose their excitement for fans when the stands are sparsely filled. The fun is the crowd. It will be difficult to sell season tickets next year.
