EXCLUSIVE: Filming on the upcoming sixth and final season of Netflixs Washington D.C.-set drama House of Cards has been suspended indefinitely. Cast and crew of the MRC-produced series were told of the shutdown this morning.
MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew, the two companies said in a joint statement to Deadline.
The news comes less than 24 hours after Netflix announced that House of Cards will end with its upcoming sixth season as allegations of unwanted sexual advances in 1986 by HoC star Kevin Spacey against then-14-year-old Anthony Rapp had emerged.
The Emmy-nominated House of Cards had been in production in Baltimore on its sixth season. Executives from Netflix and MRC arrived in the city Monday to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported following the allegations against Spacey, who had not been scheduled to be on set yesterday.
Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last nights news concerning Kevin Spacey, the companies said in a joint statement Monday.
Season 6 of House of Cards had been expected to consist of 13 episodes and debut in mid-2018 on Netflix. It is unclear yet how the stop of production would impact that.
Less than two weeks ago, HoC had to deal with a mass shooting that took place a mile from its Baltimore set. It ended up not affecting production.
In what has been a career-defining and critically praised role, Spacey plays the manipulative and murderous now ex-President Francis Underwood in the Netflix series. Season 5 of the show ended with Robin Wrights Claire Underwood now in the Oval Office as Americas first female POTUS as Spaceys Underwood resigned in disgrace.
Having helped launch Netflixs original programming explosion in 2013, the David Fincher-produced House of Cards was created by Beau Willimon based on the 1990 BBC series from Michael Dobbs novel. With the series coming to an end, Netflix and MRC had been exploring potential spinoffs.
What really needs to happen to clean out Hollywood is for people who are knows about the “everybody knows” open secret perverts start to refuse to hire them or work with them over concerns that a revelation will shut down their own productions and paychecks. They obviously don’t care about the morality but when people like Andy Dick and Kevin Spacey end up as a bigger liability than any name recognition they might bring at that point the shunning will happen.
Bingo.
The elephant everyone's ignoring is that a 26-year-old (as he was) homosexual man's trying to force/pressure/lure/persuade a 14-year-old boy is the NORM. It's what homosexual men do: go after adolescent boys for sex.
There was an amazing scene to open the season where his motorcade drives to the cemetery and he gets out and pisses on his father’s grave. I figured there was some reality tv behind that move.
This just came too early. Pedophilia is the next step and they are in the very early stages of doing for it what they did for homosexuality. Homo activist Dan Savage (a more loathesome person would be hard to find) had said in a speech a couple of years ago that pedophilia wasn't necessarily bad as long as you don't act on it (step one, it's natural and they can't help their feelings so don't judge). But even he put out a tweet about how aghast he was with Spacey. It wasn't about the morality, it was about knowing it's too soon right now.
Worse, he said he now chooses to live as a gay man. Remember, you can choose to be a man or a woman, but being gay is genetic.
Horrible for all the good people working on the show.
Am I permitted to say that this stuff is getting kind of...wacky? The accuser was talking about something that was supposed to have happened thirty years ago; Spacey says he doesn't recall the incident, but that he's sorry if it did happen; production on Spacey’s current show is suspended halfway through an entire season. What if Spacey had responded, “This never happened”? Just saying we should all brace ourselves for a world in which there are no more criminal or civil trials.
ridding our selves of some really obnoxious holes!!!
They dont actually do that.
Frank should be assassinated.
One of the “open secrets” alleged on some blogs is that Spacey aggressively propositioned young actors and crew members on the HOC set. Now they are finally getting around to suspending production to do something about it. Its sad and disgusting that it takes publicity for Netflix executives (or whoever produces HOC) to do something they should have done a while ago.
The cast and storyline is so strong they could write FU out of the script and make it work.
There are no criminal or civil trials at work. You take home some cash belonging to the company, say you were drunk, you apologize, younthought it was your can still fire you.
There was a gay guy on Tucker Carlson last night who had the guts to admit the REAL reason Hollywood turned on Kevin Spacey. He said, “Look, Tucker, don’t kid yourself. If Spacey had been a ‘good gay’ all these years, being out of the closet and going to GLAAD Awards dinners, the Hollywood community, including the gays, would be backing Kevin Spacey and trying to destroy this relatively unknown accuser. However, Spacey has always kept his private life, well, private. So, the gays are angry about that, and now they’re embarrassed that he’s using his ‘coming out’ to deflect from these accusations.” Exactamundo. If Spacey had already been “out”, this story would be playing out very differently. His only sin was having declined to broadcast his homosexuality until he needed to use it as a shield.

Agree, I will miss watching the story if they end HoC.
The dirty little secret in New Jersey was that everyone connected to McGreevey knew his story for years, but actively took steps to cover it up and hide it from the public. That includes family members, too.
Spacey is just one of many Pedo’s in Hollywood.
Expose them and send them to jail.
In the British version that is exactly what happens and how they ended the show in it’s third season.
