The National Football League continues to struggle with furious fans as player protests enter their second month, with ratings for the NFLs flagship Sunday Night Football down a staggering 25% from this time last week.
According to Deadline Hollywood, television viewership for the troubled football association continued its free fall from previous weeks, with roughly one quarter fewer fans tuning in as the Detroit Lions faced off against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With that, as the league and broadcasters have been losing ratings traction and snared in political controversy this season, last nights Week 8 NFL game is down a hard 25% for SNF from last weeks gridiron battle. That Super Bowl LI re-match saw the New England Patriots blowout the Atlanta Falcons 23-7, writes Deadline.
The NFL has been struggling to regain its footing following weeks of players choosing to take a knee during the performance of the US national anthem. The ensuing controversy gained national attention when President Trump called for a total boycott of the NFL until officials and owners require players to stand during the Star-Spangled Banner.
As a result, ratings, ticket purchases, and merchandise sales have plummeted as football fans protest with their wallets.

Still too many watching.
Before reading too much into it, recall that this was head to head with a great game 5.
A good start
NFL bleed a lot.
The teams, and the media, are far from being bankrupted.
More less watching to do!
I’d rather see a comparison with game 1 year ago than 1 week ago. When I last looked it was down only 6-10%
not enough.
i want the last refuge of the NFL to be run on Wednesdays at 2:00 am on ESPN the Ocho channel. And Lifetime, the Network for Women.
They should refund that 25 percent to the advertisers.
there will be so called conservatives who are still watching, and aiding the NFL. They are the Vichy who have no guts , and no morals.
I watched the World Series last night. Everybody, including players, stood for the National Anthem with their caps over their hearts. Were there some other sports on TV yesterday?
Stealing it.
The trend is in the right direction. I predict down another 15% next week.
Maybe the NFL will stand...
for food...
So National Felon League, "How is your liberal fake racism bs doing these days?
Where are all the Fans? Thanks to Liberty lover!
Hey Disney/ABC/ESPN how are your National Felon League tv audiences doing so far this year? How many dumb former jocks will be laid off in your next lay offs as your ESPN/NFL tv audience shrinks each week.
BTTTT!
If I was an owner, I’d put my asylum up for sale pronto.
