One of the first things you have to do to give someone permission to change their mind, is to lower their defences and prevent them from digging their heels in to the position they already staked out, Marman told SBS.
If I immediately start to tell you all the ways in which youre wrong, theres no incentive for you to co-operate. But if I start by saying, Ah yeah, you made a couple of really good points here, I think these are important issues, now youre giving the other party a reason to want to co-operate as part of the exchange. And that gives you a chance to give voice your own concerns about their position in a way that allows co-operation.
So next time you are faced with a situation where you need to change someones mind, old Pascals trick might be able to help you out.

Liberals simply can’t be reached. I’ve learned that it is a waste of time.
“Its been noted that logic wont get a person out of a position that logic didnt get them into”.
Very good!
Liberals thinking is based on feelings (feel good group think), not logic.
That’s for certain.
“It only works with those that possess a mind. Liberals are devoid of one”.
Please see my tagline.
Smile, be courteous and understanding, and stick a loaded .45 to their temple.

Actually, that's when you get called a racist, xenophobe, nazi, etcetera, depending upon the circumstance and nature of the discussion. They're going to shut it down and if they can't shut it down they'll shout it down. Nature of the beast, spent many mostly futile years in leftist haunts, drinking and debating/arguing.
Won a few over, and surprisingly the old hippies are the most amenable. The left or what it's become actually scares them, it's what they thought they'd fought against in the sixties and seventies. They sort of default into a vague left-libertarian position, still vote largely Democrat, but there's nothing about the modern Democrat Party that could be described as live and let live or go along to get along. It's all about confrontation and force. Pointing that out gently without partisan rancor is the single most effective thing I could do at the time. They've become what they though they hated.
Sounds very interesting.
Is there a good book on this subject?
Bingo ...... “Verbal Judo” reasoning with a liberal is never an option. Just go with a wood shampoo with a 36” riot baton and a OC rinse for the ice breaker.
Yes, you have described what I experienced as well.
Last night I was having dinner with some colleagues, and the subject of President Trump came up. Generally, i avoid political discussions at at work, but they brought it up. They detest him. I pointed out two things - (1) he is an independent despite the “R” as he has neither the strong support of the entrenched DC interests of either party. This brings resentment to a person who did something quite remarkable in politics - never held political office and won the top prize the first time he ran. (2) While he is viewed as “unpolished” in his speech, there are millions of people in the Northeast who speak exactly like he does - tell you what they think without filters - especially Democrats. Except unlike other politicians, he tells you what he thinks and what he wants to do, instead of being a smooth talking, lying politician. They conceded both points, then decided we should talk about something else. I think our work relationship kept them from the ad hominem attacks, though I presented my position as a neutral observer.
I too would like to learn more. Have you published your material or can you reference any worthwhile reading on the subject?
Most I’ve met literally do not have a mind, at least that functions beyond the normal motor control functionality. 8>)
It’s extremely frustrating.
It used to frustrate me, & then I realized that their lack of a brain make it impossible for them think on their own. So I just do not engage them in topics that require thought process. 8>) My anxieties & frustrations towards them evaporated after that course of action. You can only have a meaningful conversation on certain topics with those capable of thinking for themselves.
They do have enough of a brain to be indoctrinated. I suppose that is all that is required to be led like stupid sheep or zombies.
