FULL TITLE: Model receives rape and death threats for showing off her hairy legs in an Adidas ad - and is told she looks like a 'disgusting monkey'
A Swedish model has revealed how she's been subjected to death and rape threats after posing for an Adidas ad campaign with unshaven legs.
Arvida Bystrom, 26, a model and photographer, took to Instagram to reveal how she'd received a torrent of abuse after the campaign was released in which she reveals her hairy calves underneath a pair of pink ankle socks.
'Me being such an abled, white, cis body with its only nonconforming feature being a little leg hair,' she said. 'Literally I've been getting rape threats in my DM inbox.
'I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to not posses all these privileges and try to exist in the world. Sending love and try to remember that not everybody has the same experiences being a person.

The laser "zaps" the hair follicles that are actively growing, causing the cells in the follicles to literally explode. You hear a snap each time the laser is pulsed. Each pulse only lasts a fraction of a second, but there are many of them because the laser only covers a small area, and there was a large area to cover.
I would liken the feeling to being hit with a board studded with small nails or thumbtacks, over and over.
I've had my bikini line and legs done. With the legs, the clinic offered a free treatment a few months after the four treatments were done in order to catch any stragglers. I did not take them up on that. A couple of stragglers did survive the treatment, but they are barely noticeable. I have not had to shave for more than ten years, and I love being able to wear a dress any time I want without having to go through the shaving ritual first.
The laser treatment works best if you have light skin and dark hair.
I wonder why more women don’t get it done.
There’s no way a blonde produces that dark of leg hair.
I would have preferred to live in that era then. All the shaving time adds up and could be spent doing interesting things instead. Though, being raised in this culture and this era, it looks and feels unattractive no matter how I try to think around it. We’ve been brainwashed I guess.
Hmm. So it is some German women known for being hairy then? I’m Part German and part Irish. Never understood where the curse came from having such light skin yet dark fast growing hair. In 6th grade I remember sitting in gym class looking down at my legs thinking eww, and why are most of the other girls hairless, they must shave already... so I asked my mom to teach me how to shave. She said I had to wait till I’m 12. I don’t know why she wanted me to suffer for no reason lol. Anyways I remember one of my friends inviting me to her house for lunch and introduced me to her mother, who spoke German and not very good English. She had a mustache. Nothing major but definitely noticeable.
Sort of glad shes not a brunette
Wouldn’t stop me from hitting it. Wouldn’t even slow me down.
It is a shame US women every shaved their legs and pits. Now we are so used to it, it seems repulsive when women don’t shave, but the reality is it is a non-issue, or would be a non issue had women never started shaving. It is a stupid issue. I don’t even know how it got started except somebody somewhere along the way wanted women to either look like 7 year old girls or 7 year old boys. One or the other.
It’s dumb. Now we can’t go back.
You’re presuming she is a natural blonde.
Black would be the bomb!
Two reasons, I think. One, the procedure is pricy—I paid about $1,200 ten years ago. The other is that it works best for women with light skin and dark hair, because the laser interacts with the pigment. A woman who has dark skin will get burned, and a light-skinned woman with blond hair might not have any significant hair removal.
The treatment worked very well for me, and I am very happy with the result. No more shaving. No more having to plan ahead when I want to wear a dress, shorts, or swimsuit. It’s awesome.
Don't have to go to Europe to see it.
Carboro, NC, next to Chapel Hill has all you want.
The leg hair is tolerable. Armpits? ARRRGH !
That's like the jungle then the highlands and then the grand tetons.
I like the plains, the highlands then climb the mounts. Not a jungle person.
As women get older, the hair on the legs almost completely stops growing. It’s younger, more fertile women who have hairy legs. Leads me to conclude that men are supposed to be more attracted to hairy legs. Advertising, movies, etc. have changed what we humans consider attractive.
The girls at St. Theresa’s in Kansas City have leg hair contests haha. Still, I think she looks ick.
Tranny?
Oh yeah, ick yuck patooey to facial hair on men or women.
true blonds lighten in the sun, it’s a lie that you can tell if blond is real by looking at the color of the carpet.
They shave their chest hair and keep a scruffy beard and pony tail or man bun to look cool. Ick.
Laughter is the best medicine.
