Hepatitis A, spread by fecal contamination, has killed 16 people and sickened 421 since November.
An outbreak of hepatitis A, a dangerous but preventable disease that is spread through fecal contamination and attacks the liver, has gotten so out of hand
in San Diego that the county government is handing out plastic poop bags and washing the streets with bleach. (Emphasis mine)
The outbreak has killed 16 people and infected 421 since November, ravaging San Diegos large homeless and illicit drug-using population.
It could eventually cost the county health department up to a million dollars, a local health official estimated.
But San Diego could have avoided its hepatitis A crisis or at least ensured it didnt get this bad if its homeless residents had better access to housing
and the city provided the services they need to stay healthy, activists and public health experts say.

Any physical contact with an infected individual
or anything that they may have touched (Secondary transmission =ie: handrail, strap on a bus or trolley, doorknob, etc.)
Downtown is overrun by filthy, drug addled, mentally ill freaks.
What are the symptoms of hepatitis A?
While not everyone infected with hepatitis A will develop symptoms,
some common indicators of infection include:
Fever
Weakness, fatigue
Nausea
Loss of appetite
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
Stomach pain
Vomiting
Dark urine, pale stools, and diarrhea
The homeless AND the drug users.
Years ago our family had to have Hep A vaccines for foreign travel. The vaccine had pretty significant side effects, more than I’ve ever experienced with any other vaccine.
Thank oBastard for all these filthy mexicans?
just one of the bad things that happens when the local government could care less if people shit in the streets ...
The new blowers seem to be more sanitary, as you put your hands inside and the blowing air is contained. Of course, you still have the issue of opening the door out of the restroom. If the door opens out, you can just push your shoulder against it. If it opens out, different story, and no paper towels available...
Generally i can agree but in all honesty some of these people won’t realize they’re repeat offending. If you’re going to spend the money to get them off the streets then some sort of asylum makes more sense. Also far more Christian.
anybody who has gone into a public br sees people leave without washing their hands...men and women...its a very bad habit not just among the homeless...
maybe a good idea to get the vaccination...
I've tried twice to get the Hep B vaccination but apparently I'm a "non responder"...
make them take these simple health steps or face incarceration...
yes I would treat the mentally ill differently than the others. The others will figure it out and get work and get off the street.
