Three cheers for Steeler #78, Alejandro Villanueva (vanity)
me

Posted on 09/24/2017 10:14:21 AM PDT by Leaning Right

I just caught the start of the Steelers-Bears game. As was expected, the Steelers did not come out for the playing of the national anthem. Except for one. Alejandro Villanueva came out. And he stood for the anthem with his hand over his heart.

Villanueva is an Army Ranger. And he holds the Bronze Star, with the V for valor. So yeah, he understands what the flag is all about.

By the way, don't ask me what happened after the national anthem was played, and the rest of the Steelers came out. I turned the TV off. Won't be watching them anymore.

Is it true that Big Ben came out with Villanueva?

Alejandro Villanueva (born September 22, 1988) is an American football offensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). Villanueva is also a Captain in the United States Army, in which he served as an Army Ranger and was decorated with a Bronze Star for valor. He played college football for the Army Black Knights, being recruited at one position and playing three others during the course of his career. After serving three tours of duty in Afghanistan, he signed a contract with the Eagles on May 5, 2014, after working out in a regional showcase. Was also one of only 2 players on the Pittsburgh Steelers to stand for the National Anthem on September 24, 2017, ( The other being Ben Roethlisberger).

If so, I didn’t see it. Maybe it depends on the camera angle. One station might have shown it, another one not.

The 8 Oct game for the Steelers is the next at home game. Most tickets are sold I would guess. My suggestion would be for those in situation with tickets...go ahead and show up....then as the anthem wraps up and the Steelers leave the tunnel...start a two-hour rendition of the National Anthem (with no end until the final whistle is blown).

I suspect that if all games keep their players inside during the National Anthem, then this will turn around. You will see, bit by bit, the players who love America come out on the field and be applauded as heroes.

Villanueva's parents are both Spanish. His father was an officer in the Spanish military. Alejandro was born in Mississippi at the U.S. Navy facility in Meridian when his father was there on a NATO assignment.

This guy should be named as the NFL commissioner -- like, tomorrow.

That is excellent...and good on you for turning it off. Not one cent of my money, not one minute of my time. Nevermore.

Now THAT would be awesome! Love that idea. :)

I watched the opening of the Vikings v. Buccaneers game.

TWO Buccaneers took a knee during the National Anthem.

If the crowd did not have the courage to walk out, America lost.

According to the CNN website he did not go on the field, but stood next to the tunnel with his hand over his heart. There is a picture. I still applaud him, but would have liked to see him standing tall on the sidelines.

NO! Only a man who loves his country. Don’t give damn what his politics are off the field.
