Cool! I sold mine in ‘79 or so and at that time I don’t ever remember mods for the 914 like those links show!

That is not a 69 Malibu or Chevelle. That is a 70.
Thanks. You're right.
Here's a '69 then...

He never finished college and was drafted into the Army in 1969. Those cars were not that expensive even in 68 dollars. Plenty of enlisted men came back with big combat and re-enlistment bonuses and bought bitchin wheels. Thanks for the clarification FRiend. Sounds like a good kid who well deserved the gift from his justifiably proud dad.

Back then dealerships were a good deal if you or family owned one. Besides getting cars at cost, sometimes you could get new models real cheap and it was a good idea to have young guys driving them as it could lead to more sales. One of my much older cousins a couple of times removed owned a Pontiac-Cadillac dealership in PA in the 60’s. My father bought a ‘66 GTO convertible new for my mother to drive but I took it over after she put less than 5,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, it was the two speed Powerglide but it would still do 60 in 6.5 seconds and exceed 130 on a level straight. They sold it a week after I reported for active duty in December 1967.

The one you saw last night was a ‘77. The one posted above it was a 76. Mine was 76 and with the exception of being White, had the same features as the one you posted. Thanks for bringing back a great memory!

I’d never made that correlation between the Javelin AMX and the Mustang like you did. They just look completely different to me but do share some styling attributes .... nice find!

Probably not officially a muscle car, but I got a 56 Corvette with a 265 and 3 on the floor when I came home from Vietnam Nam in 69. Hot little engine! Blew it up and put a 327 in it with a Rochester Quadrajet and Borg Warner T-10 4 speed. Couldn’t hold it down. Every time I came back to that car there were phone numbers tucked under the windshield wipers. Another life time. So long ago.

You, Sir, have good taste! We had a ‘68. That thing would fishtail with ease.
One powerful beast.

You, Sir, have good taste! We had a 68. That thing would fishtail with ease. Most people have NO IDEA just how powerful that AMX was. I could easily get rubber through first and second with a good strong chirp going into third-gear.
It was a complete beast. Hands down more power and torque than anything else I owned. The fact that it could beat the same model year Corvette in a quarter mile (and even more easily in the half mile...) was just a bonus.
