Back then dealerships were a good deal if you or family owned one. Besides getting cars at cost, sometimes you could get new models real cheap and it was a good idea to have young guys driving them as it could lead to more sales. One of my much older cousins a couple of times removed owned a Pontiac-Cadillac dealership in PA in the 60’s. My father bought a ‘66 GTO convertible new for my mother to drive but I took it over after she put less than 5,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, it was the two speed Powerglide but it would still do 60 in 6.5 seconds and exceed 130 on a level straight. They sold it a week after I reported for active duty in December 1967.
