'Perfect' conditions could make Harvey the strongest hurricane to hit the US in 12 YEARS [tr]

Texas is bracing itself for the storm of the decade as Hurricane Harvey barrels towards the state, which is expecting catastrophic flooding, power outages, winds up to 130mph and 30 inches of rain. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Harvey has 'rapidly intensified' and experts say weather conditions have created the perfect recipe for the monster Category 3 hurricane to form and crash into Texas late on Friday night. The national guard has been mobilized amid fears over the life-threatening flash flooding, which poses 'a grave risk' to Texans as the hurricane is expected to be the strongest to hit the United States mainland in 12 years since Hurricane Wilma in 2005.

I live in Utah. The “chicken littles” are so loud and persistent that I probably should run out and buy a year’s supply of milk and break. OH NO!!!!!!!! We all are going to die!

Time will tell-BUT- what is certain is that the weather people criminally exaggerate everything. A week ago they KNEW it was going into Yucatan and Mexico-no problem for the Gulf Coast. Now they don't know where the hell it's going, inland, along the coast, Canada...they can't FOREcast until it gets there. They have NO-Zero- credibility and they've been crying wolf for Louisiana(yes for a storm over 300 miles away the word 'evacuation' has been used) it's laughable. Texas needs the rain, but I doubt it will be 20+ inches and they make it sound like the whole storm is blowing over 100mph when it's only an area near the eye. Gulf Coast natives know better. Just consider that Louisiana is under a 'state of emergency' for a hurricane in Texas because funky New Orleans now has to consider mere RAIN a serious threat. Oh- and Tuesday is the anniversary of Katrina, ironic if we get the 'catastrophic' rainfall on that day!

My sympathies for those it hits however-hurricanes are no fun and being without power in August heat is life-threatening at 100 degrees. Here's hoping it goes inland and falls apart quickly.

Where’s Ralph Kramden when we need him? He did a pretty good job of standing up to Harvey in a classic Honeymooners episode.

As predictable as the sunrise, we will get:

-Monster Hurricane because of 'Climate Change'

-Reminder that Trump took us out of the Paris nonsense

-Implication that Trump wants to reduce the size of Gubmint, and only Gubmint can save us all in a hurricane

-Complaint by some RAT politician in the hurricane zone that FEMA didn't dole out some freebie on time...because Trump 'botched' the hurricane

Comparison to Barry's 'handling' of 'superstorm' Sandy

16” of rain is Biblical for all around Houston. I’m far NW and 16” last year got water to my driveway. This time if we ONLY get 16” the storm surge of a few feet stops the bayous from draining. Thats why I’m going to be in North, North Arkansas., I wouldn’t call people chicken Little just yet.

A guy I know “inside” the weather service said yesterday there could be 10,000 houses from Katy south under water.

Apologize...you didn’t call people chicken little. But it’s not laughable that Louisiana is concerned.

I saw balls of fire ants going across the water in a flood. That might be the worst kind of misery.

"Floodigators". The new 9-11pm Saturday evening show on SciFi.

What the heck, couldn't be any worse than "Sharktopus" or "Mansquito".

I saw some Bigfoot movie on there starring Alice Cooper, that was epic in its badness. So bad, that it actually came full circle, and might possibly have been good.

I will never forget in the 1970’s flood in Louisiana the piles of fire ant mounds floating on top of the flood waters. And snakes. They swim, apparently.

“Don’t forget to stock up on milk and bread.”

I’m in San Antonio. We did our normal shopping last night, just to avoid a rush today (and who knows if, or for how long, the stores will be open on the weekend). Passed by another grocery store (HEB) on the way home, and it was JAMMED at 10:00. A friend went there around then, and posted pictures of the water aisle literally emptied of EVERYTHING and, a few minutes later, of the checkout lines going halfway down the aisles.

I got some more water this morning and gassed up. We’re not going anywhere, but may need the car for charging electronics. I think that deliveries of food and gas this weekend and early next week are going to be very spotty and delayed, so best to not need either for that time period.

“Alligator infested flooding”
Oh no!
Could it be . . . will it be. . . GATORNADO ?

Yeah, well, the gators are the ones that should be afraid. Right now, they’re not bothering us. Come into our neighborhoods, and they’ll get a severe case of instantaneously fatal airborne lead poisoning.

We Texans can take care of ourselves. Same applies to liberals - we’re kind of OK with them in Austin, but that’s about it. :>)

I've HAD water in my house-from a regular rainstorm, more than once!. I know the misery, the mold and the loss. But is IS laughable that LA (specifically N.O) is now afraid of ANY rain-because the drainage is destroyed and politicians lied about the pumps. The word 'evacuation' can now apply for storms that don't hit us! I think it's laughable that these weather pros know ALL about how many hurricanes there will be in January, and can pinpoint where they're going in the Atlantic, BUT when they are off the Gulf Coast they have no idea what will happen until it does. And they start talking about storms so early that-weeks later- people tune them out.

I don't wish anyone water in their homes, or days without power in brutal heat. I hope Harvey moves along quickly and dissipates

re: living well inland.

Before I move to NE Ohio, I believed all of the complaints from people about how bad the weather is. The weather is better than just tolerable. Besides that, there's no constant worry about flooding, tornadoes, or forest fires. Those are three concerns I'd rather live without.
