re: living well inland.

Before I move to NE Ohio, I believed all of the complaints from people about how bad the weather is. The weather is better than just tolerable. Besides that, there's no constant worry about flooding, tornadoes, or forest fires. Those are three concerns I'd rather live without.

I see a lot of weather extremes as I live in two places — central Missouri and the Phoenix valley.

I know central and western Missouri well and tornados, big storms, mud and flash floods are all second nature to me.

The Valley of the Sun is now something I have been around for visits for 20 years and lived there for 5. It does get hot.

All of these things are things you prepare and plan for and then face what is dealt out with the understanding you can’t plan around the full impact of certain events.

Where I live, we have rain storms that knock out power and topple trees every few summers, and the occasional Tornado every decade or so.

Winters are much more mild than they used to be, but about once every five years we have a real whopper with 100” or more of snow. Not all at once, but 18-20” at a time every week to 10 days DOES get tiring...but it’s great for all the outdoor activities we like; riding our snowmobiles or snowshoeing. We didn’t have enough snow to do either last winter. :(

And I have a decent growing season, too, for herbs and flowers and veggies of all kinds. Mid-April through end of October, if I time things correctly.

No matter where you live there’s give and take. I really don’t like BUGS or snakes or other critters that want to BITE me just for fun, so anywhere in the deep south doesn’t appeal to me at all.

And don’t even get me started on my fear of open water; our oceans are BEAUTIFUL from the SHORE! :)
