How did Mathew McGonnaghey get suckered into being in this turkey?
Shawshank sucks.
You and me both. I felt that way when I slogged through the “trilogy” about the time king announced that it wasn’t going to be over at 3 volumes. I thought misery was the best adaptation
There is no great Stephen King anything.
He writes the same inanities over and over again.
I have read several King books, anticipated the movies made from them and get disappointed every time..........I don’t think Hollywood even reads the books, they just use the titles and the authors’ names...................
I read that too years ago, I thought it got silly after a while with the Randall Flagg character and mother Jones, it made it too unbelievable.
In theory this is just the beginning. It’s supposed to be 3 movies with 2 TV shows in between. And technically they’re not adapting any of the books, this is Roland’s “next lap”. So it’s a sequel, but not really. Of course that’s all dependent on how much money this one makes.
A great filmmaker can improve on a mediocre source. ‘The Shining’ say.
He told you not to read that last chapter. You were warned.
So, you’re saying it’s just like all his other books?..............
The ninny and the doggie.
Agreed.
I’ve only read the books, in order a couple times.
Me, it’s a linear progression even with the world-jumping
(which is kind of blurry.. new place in this world or in another?)
and the kind of sequential jacking that must occur for
a movie just seems like it’ll remove a lot of what I
found captivating.
I suppose it could be executed in a way to accomodate all that but in a single movie?
Hell naw.
Thankee Sai.
I read the Stand in one sitting, most of the night.
Last book of his I liked.
“It” sucked the big one.
It was the first book I ever stopped reading because it was so stupid I could not go on.
That, and ‘The Hot Zone’.
I bought it because Steven King said the first chapter was horrifying- “and it just kept getting worse” ... which I took to mean more horrifying but I think he meant the quality of material.
It was the first and only book I ever returned to the store because it sucked so bad after the first chapter.
The Stand is by far the best.
But maybe it doesn’t count since it was a TV mini-series, rather than a theater movie?
Hearts in Atlantis was good too (IMHO, anyway).
Which is why if they get what they want it’ll be 30 hours split between TV and movies. They want the movies to have the flashy big screen stuff with the plot in the TV shows. Which is a lot of why the movie is getting such crap reviews. They probably should have done a TV show first, layout the plot, THEN jump to the big screen flash. We’re gonna see it tomorrow. At the theater with food and beer, one way or the other I’m having fun, even if the wife has to drive us home.
The Green Mile
I read it as typical good vs evil.
