Need some Freeper feedback. I received 2 Jury duty summons in the mail. One for US District Court (2 weeks) and another for my local county (1 week). My question is has anyone ever received 2 before. These are 3 weeks apart.
Most cases are settled out of court. You shouldn’t have a problem.
Rules vary by state and county but the local jury duty should only take a day unless you get picked to serve. Here in NJ, we can even call in on the day your supposed to show up and if your number isn’t in the que that day, you don’t even need to go.
District is a different matter all together. That sounds like it could be similar to Grand Jury Duty. Most employers pay your salary minus whatever you are paid for duty. You should inquire about that.
If you are self employed, that may be your out.
Wear a baseball cap either:

Confederate flag
You won't be selected, guaranteed.
Yes, I have gotten local and federal summons close together. Wasn’t anything to do about it but go. The Fed was for a grand jury which was a 2 year commitment - fortunately, I did not get selected. That would have been horrible - they don’t meet every day, but you have to go many times over the 2 years.
2. You might be able to get out of the second jury duty if there is any possibility that the first one could run past the August 7th date for the first one.
Any advice on how to get out of these?
Wear a MAGA cap.
You may be able to beg out of one of them. County jury duty is usually only 5 days. I got called several years ago for a sexual abuse case. We were done by about 3:00PM on Friday.
Judges are not lenient in letting you beg off. Once I got out of it by telling the judge I had just started a new job but I would be happy to serve at another time down the road. He told the clerk to put me down for 6 months later and let me go. I was the only one that got let off that day.
I haven’t had a jury summons notification since 1988. Getting two in that short time period??? I think that means you should immediately go buy some lottery tickets...
Show up with a Pocket Constitution or ‘The Citizen’s Rule Book’. Guarantee you won’t be seated.
I attended the local court which exempted me from the district court.
Those two independent courts don’t talk to each other. It’s simply the luck of the draw.
I would recommend you contact the state court, explain your predicament and show them the federal summons. I’m certain they’d excuse you for that reason.

Just because you have a summons doesn’t mean you will get picked to serve on a jury. If you don’t get picked you fall off the list.
It’s very difficult to get out of a summons. It’s also very difficult to get out of jury duty.
If you get picked for an interview just act biased. You should get disqualified.
Contact the sources that sent you the summons and talk to them
about your options. Do it now and don’t put it off until the
last minute.
Serving on a jury is one of the most important things a citizen can do (seriously!) - but if they are concurrent you will be released from one or the other. Society needs good people on juries ... if they can make it on ;)
I was called for U.S. District Court once. You have to be on call for a variety of cases that may come up; so if you are not picked for a jury, you have to stick around in case something else comes up. I spent one whole day in the pool of available jurors, and was given a # to call to see when we were meeting again. Fortunately, I was not needed after that one wasted day.
You could always do what a lot of people do - pretend you never received the summons.
I always use the “I don’t trust the police” line and have never been picked for jury duty yet.
Where I live, there's supposedly a $1,600 fine for ignoring a jury summons.
You can say that again. Our nation doesn’t expect much of us. Serving on a jury when called is the least we can do.
Florida allows several exemptions. If you have already served within a given period, if there is a hardship or you can delay for six months. Mine corresponded with starting a new job, so they allow six months. You may be required to write a letter. Call both and ask. (Hint, honey works better than vinegar.)
