Scientists have discovered an ancient, giant, crocodile-like creature in Madagascar that had T-Rex-sized teeth it used for crunching bones,. The discovery helps to fill in the evolutionary gaps of a 74 million year long crocodilian ghost lineage.
Researchers first discovered fossils of a giant predator on the island over a decade ago. At the time, scientists believed they had discovered a large predator from the Jurassic period and they named the creature Razanandrongobe sakalavae, meaning giant lizard ancestor from Sakalava region.

Hey! “Razanandrongobe” is my middle name.
Actually this sounds like something called “leviathan” in the Bible.
There are still large crocodiles in Madagascar which eat everything they can get their big mouths around. They are called Communists.
Its mouth comes in third place behind Maxine and Nancy.
Uhhhh......Crocodiles do not “crunch bones” with their teeth. They can not chew. Crocodiles and alligators use their teeth to hold their prey, while they hold it underwater until the prey drowns.
Once the prey drowns, it is usually stashed under a log or root, and left for a few days until it begins to decompose. This makes it easier for the croc to tear it apart into pieces small enough to be swallowed.
I guess these reporter types are too busy studying Marx to ever watch any of the nature programs on TV.
Whew, that's a relief. I was worried that they chewed.
Don’t smoke, don’t chew,
Don’t hang with giant ghost crocs who do.
Great name for a band. Or ‘Right Wing Death Squad’
I’d have to flip a coin.
[two months later] LOLOL!
From Sakalava region? You sucka lava, you go extinct, no surprises there.
Note: this topic is from . Thanks C19fan. I'd been in here before, posted, but never pinged the list.
They also do a “death roll” spinning on the long axis of their bodies while holding limbs and body parts which are torn out of the victim’s body and swollowed whole if the entire animal can’t be swollowed whole.
