Many a celebrity has sought to further boost their credentials by revealing they are descended from kings and queens on genealogy programmes.
But according to a leading geneticist, their boasts are nothing special because we are all related to royalty.

For those who believe in JESUS CHRIST as LORD & SAVIOR...
Galatians 3:26
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
John 1:12
But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:
1 John 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.
Almost everyone is related to Charlemagne.
Nah. Celebrities are descended from court jesters and piss boys.
I’m reminded of the Robert Heinlein novel, “Time Enough For Love”. In that book the main character, Lazarus Long, was over 2000 years old and had long since given up on his moral position that he wouldn’t sleep with anybody related to him since by this point in his life everybody was related to him.
We’re all related to Noah....if you go back far enough.
-—and along with the Roosevelts, to my utter disgust , I am related to “THE ONE” through his mother-—
Numbers game.
Even a relatively low-fertility family that starts with five children having three offspring each, and those averaging three offspring, etc., will have around 11,000 descendants in eight generations. Fecund family trees would have many times that many descendants in the same time.
I read once that something like a quarter of the Chinese population is descended from Genghis Khan.
Sometimes the apple rolls or gets kicked pretty far from the tree.
I’d rather not be. “Royalty” is nothing more than people who took advantage of a lawless era, took by force whatever they wanted, and proclaimed themselves better than everyone else.
ha! I knew i was a princess.
Distant cousin to the King of England and descended from the King of France, so long ago the bloodline is seriously diluted. I don’t think I have to worry about being in the royal line.
I’m much more excited that one batch of my ancestors came over on the Mayflower, another batch landed in Virginia in the 1600s, another batch were Pennsylvania Mennonites, and another batch were pioneers who moved west in the 1800s. That’s much more interesting than being descended from royalty.
I am... and, have the records to prove it. :-)
My g-g-grandmother was a descendant of Sir Thomas Wyatt. Once you link your family in some way to British nobility? You're connected back a LONG way.
So... yea... pretty much all of us with European ancestry are.
I am Charlemagne XLIV
Where is my crown?
Yes, I’ve always known that there were some embarrassments in my family tree.
We are all descended from kings, and we are all descended from slaves.
Statistically it’s inevitable. I worked out my maternal genealogy into the 1700s, and if you extrapolate the numbers back the math is fascinating.
Mid 1900s: mom
Early 1900s: mom’s parents
Late 1800s: 4 grandparents
Mid 1800s: 8 great grandparents, etc.
Early 1800s: 16
Late 1700s: 32
Mid 1700s: 64
Early 1700s: 128
1600s: late 256, mid 512, early 1024
1500s: 2048, 4096, 8192 <-—surpasses population of a typical town/village
1400s: 16k, 32k, 65k
1300s: 131k, 262k, 524k
1200s: 1m, 2m, 4m
1100s: 8m, 16m, 33m <-—surpasses population of Italy at the time
1000s: 67m, 134m, 268m
900s: 536m, 1b, 2b <—surpasses population of the world at the time
Those can’t be all discrete individuals, there will be overlap the farther you go back of course, but those numbers are still massive enough to include just about everyone.
There was a statistical model done recently that determined that all Europeans are descended from Charlemagne and that the most recent common ancestor of all mankind can be dated to about 3000 years ago.
A bunch of narcissistic hooey
King Tut was thought to be Irish at first but further study showed that he is related to half of the males in Europe. When you are related to one member of the royal family you are related to most of the Royalties of Europe.
