We put their camouflage skills to the test
\The Royal Welsh is one of the UK's finest infantry regiments.
Made up of highly trained soldiers, one of their many skills is to blend into their surroundings - usually by wearing camouflage clothing and paint.
The ability go unnoticed is vital to soldiers and can mean the difference between life and death.
But how effective is their camouflage?
We asked four soldiers from the battalion to show us how they would go about hiding in a battlefield situation.
They were instructed to hide but not completely conceal themselves.
Using their expertise, camouflage clothing and the odd stick or two the troops were happy to oblige.
Can you spot them hiding?
Take a look at our 360° pictures, to see if you can spot the soldiers.

I saw three out of four. I missed the one on the far left.

I saw two of their helmets very easily, and I have no combat experience.

Color blind? No. Although I joke about it, as in:
I didn't know I was color blind until I got married. Then my wife started asking me "You're not wearing that, are you?" To which I'd reply "No, ah, I was just seeing if these still fit..." ;-)
When I'm playing "find what doesn't belong" I do a quick scan for discordant coloring or patterns. Then I do a slower scan looking for un-natural shapes - straight lines, even curves. I actually spotted these guys from right to left. The guy on the far right was easiest. Full disclosure though, I thought there was one more in the middle that turned out to be just a shadow.

With my thermals or SWIR? Visible spectrum is moot in modern combat.
Good job on hiding from eyesight though. Movement is what will get you spotted more than anything else, just ask the animal kingdom predators.
I have turkeys in my back 40 that will run away as soon as I open my back door. 300 yard pls. That is eyesight!

An exercise from Army BCT ‘67. We were trained to use peripheral vision to detect these types of targets.

If they’d moved back intothe darkness they’d have been much better hidden.
