No one is writing that bridal registries are wrong. What’s setting people off is a fat cat asking for donations on his second (or is it third?) marriage. I married at 38 and we had a quiet, demure wedding, lol, and paid for everything ourselves.
Had it occurred to you that the marriage may have been on the rocks because of the research assistant and eventual second wife?

That's a strange lack for somebody who's always going on about morality.
I suspect there are a lot of people like him at his professional and social level, but most of them take cover in some institution or ideology.

Again, it may not have been the ‘fat cat’ who was behind the registry. It’s kind of hard to argue with a bride about her wedding; and might have been very tricky for the groom to try and ‘shut her down’.
I don’t know anything about these people. Apparently, as you’ve told us, they’ve had the good grace take the embarrassment offline.
Unless he’s an elected official who answers to me, or is blatantly breaking the law in a way that affects me, I’m not going to judge little goings-on like this in someone else’s life.
No need to take them back any more. You’re lucky if a modern toaster lasts a year.

I almost never read Brooks. But I did raise an eyebrow when he penned a column back in 2014 which praised Sheldon Vanauken's A Severe Mercy, as well as *St. Augustine*.
I'm wondering if that column was her influence.

What happened to toasters? Toasters used to make perfect toast...crisp on the outside and warm and moist inside. Granted I’m no Martha Stewart, but my last three toasters, well known brand names, deliver hard, dried out tiles which are supposed to be toasted bread. I now just butter each side of the bread and grill it, when making toast.
I think you have to be careful about cleaning your toaster, getting out the crumbs in the tray or any that have gotten stuck in the works. As they get older, they do seem to get too hot on the higher settings, so you might want to try lowering the setting.
I’m still very happy with my 10-year-old Oster, but we do notice that now, the setting we’ve always used burns the toast; so we have lowered it. I don’t know the reason for this, but perhaps some electrically-minded person might inform us...
As I recall, “toaster shakin’s” were a delicacy in the Bundy household.

Sure. They flipped the original home for 4.5M and bought a second home for 1.9M. The deed allegedly indicates he was living in an apartment since July ‘13, she with her family. Looks like a simple division of equity real estate transaction to me. Applying as joint tenants helps the loan go thru. And waiting two years before flipping the original purchase probably has to do with capital gains rules.

Nope. One thing I’ve learned about men is, when they’re done with a relationship, they’re done and they move forward. Especially in their 50s when the children have grown and flown. They don’t reminisce and worry and what-if like women tend to do. The man has his own mind and makes his own decisions, sex or no, right or wrong. It generally takes two to tango. So blaming the other woman is stupid, and contributes to objectifying women as nothing more than a sexual part of the anatomy (as the article repeatedly reinforces) that should be hidden in a burka for fear she might -gasp- glance at a married man. And judging someone for divorcing or dating while separated without knowing all the sordid details of their personal lives is just as stupid.

Could be, however how do you know they were not trying to repair the marriage at that time? Speculation goes all sorts of ways. In this case, the ridicule/pointing out hypocrisy in the OT article should not be unexpected with a public figure like David Brooks.

David Brooks, the very wealthy Trump-hater and admirer of Obama’s pants crease, is a New York Times editorial writer.
Since I’m in NYC it’s only natural that I should run into the occasional NY Times writer, including Abe Rosenthal and others from the editorial side. A more conceited, pompous bunch you could not meet. I suspect Brooks had no idea that this would get such blowback, being full of himself. My favorite snide remark was the person who asked if he bought himself a red convertible.
