FULL TITLE: Angry United Airlines pilots' union issue statement denying ALL responsibility for forcible removal of doctor last week and say Chicago cops are to blame
The United Airline's pilots union released a statement on Thursday regarding Dr. David Dao's violent removal from Flight 3411 originating out of Chicago on Sunday.
The union contended that the Chicago Department of Aviation's 'grossly inappropriate response' was to blame for the events that transpired, according to the United Master Executive Council's statement.
The United Master Executive Council represents the airline's 12,500 pilots.
The statement also pointed out that the plane from which Dr. Dao was ejected was one of which that was separately owned and operated by Republic Airlines.

A situation came up where United needed to get 4 people to Louisville. So 4 people needed to give up their seats. 3 people volunteered, but it wasn't quite enough. And the rest is history.
One of the reports I read said that Dao has hired top Chicago personal injury and corporate law attorneys.
You should be in jail.
As hard as you've power bottomed for the airport police in these threads, you'd get off on it.
They didn’t overbook. They just sold tickets for a scheduled departure for which they couldn’t seat all the paying passengers.
This should been done at Check-in
Trouble is ahead. Instead of circling the wagons, segments of United are headed for the tall grass and throwing others under the bus. Pure damage control.
Amen.
The flight was not overbooked. United has finally admitted that much. They wanted to throw off paying customers in order to get a crew to the destination at the last minute. They should have continued to up the price of the compensation until they had 4 volunteeers.
I thought they always said the captain is the final authority onboard the plane.
(Execpt maybe when it’s docked at the terminal and then he can blame everything off on some groundside clerk?)
We’ll see what the court says.
You know I’m just stubborn enough that if they tried to make me leave a plane after I’m seated I’d probably refuse too. I’ve taken their offer of money and a hotel for a layover once but it was while we were still waiting to board. Once I’m on the plane I’d probably refuse to leave too. A lot of people would.
What you posted about Dao being responsible for what happened is absolutely 100% not true. The man paid for his ticket, peacefully boarded the plane, took his seat and just as peacefully settled in for the flight. He did not initiate anything that happened afterwards but only responded. He had his reasons for not volunteering to give up his seat. Airline personnel singled him out for intimidation and bullying when he didn’t voluntarily give up his seat. The airport security personnel then took it to the next level. This was totalitarian impulses writ large.
The drama queen Dao said his experience was worse than the Vietkong he experienced. Drama Queen Dao. Guys like him are what make everyday living crappy. Whether it’s at the store, driving, or on a plane. He thinks he is more important than you or me and he doesn’t have to follow directions when it suits him. And he’s a drama queen to boot........fool.
They didn’t volunteer, they simply didn’t object when told to leave, is my understanding.
HAS THE IQ OF FREEPERS DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY RECENTLY?
THE AIRLINE DID NOT ‘OVERBOOK’ ON PURPOSE AND THEN SUDDENLY DECIDE THEY WANTED TO GIVE PAID SEATS TO NON-PAYING AIRLINE EMPLOYEES.
WHEN THEY HAVE TO MOVE PILOTS AND CREW THEY HAVE NO CHOICE. OTHERWISE HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS MORE PASSENGERS WOULD BE DELAYED AS PILOT SHORTAGE CASCADES OUTWARDS.
IF A FLIGHT IS CANCELLED OR DELAYED AT A *DIFFERENT* AIRPORT, THEN THE DESTINATION NEEDS NEW PILOTS.
GOOGLE “MUST FLY” - THEY HAVE NO CHOICE IT IS ACTUALLY LAW.
True. According to the Fed. Aviation Rules the Captain is in charge and responsible the moment he/she steps on board. However, like in so many other cases there is a shared responsibility until the door is closed and the boarding ramp removed. That will be determined in court. In this case the flight deck crew may not have even known what was going on in the cabin as they are isolated in a locked and secured cockpit.
Ahhhhhhh.....now we’re getting down to the heart of the matter.
Thousands of Press people in this country and not one of them is interested in talking to the pilot?
Seems kind of strange.
It’s like they’re covering for the pilot.
Let’s hear from him/her.
