FULL TITLE: Angry United Airlines pilots' union issue statement denying ALL responsibility for forcible removal of doctor last week and say Chicago cops are to blame
The United Airline's pilots union released a statement on Thursday regarding Dr. David Dao's violent removal from Flight 3411 originating out of Chicago on Sunday.
The union contended that the Chicago Department of Aviation's 'grossly inappropriate response' was to blame for the events that transpired, according to the United Master Executive Council's statement.
The United Master Executive Council represents the airline's 12,500 pilots.
The statement also pointed out that the plane from which Dr. Dao was ejected was one of which that was separately owned and operated by Republic Airlines.

Fact is, Munoz already admitted "guilt". The only question remains is to what financial extent United will suffer.
You don't have a clue about transportation laws and regulations, so I'll just let that one go without a response.
Fact is, Munoz already admitted "guilt". The only question remains is to what financial extent United will suffer.
Any P.R. person would advise him to do this. The irony in all this is that it wasn't even a United aircraft and a United crew. It was another carrier that operates regional routes for United under contract.
Why don’t you grow up and answer the question. What “civil liberties” do I have when I’m involved in a business transaction on someone else’s property?
Please help me clear this up. Who called the police? Was it the captain, a gate agent, a flight attendant, or somebody else?
A contract existed on that property, actual and implied. Rights existed.
Surely you understand that, don’t you?
No, it didn't. A contract of carriage is not a contract on any property whatsoever.
“Dao was responsible for what happened. He should be in jail.”
Would you settle for just handcuffing him to his bed until he gets out of the hospital?
Y’all need to read the carriage contract... United or its subsidary, in this case, Republic Airlines can’t remove you from the flight once you have boarded for other than an emergency or you are a threat to flight safety.... A mistake was made BIGLY, by not offering or preventing the boarding of the 4 paying passengers... once you have scanned your ticket the can’t remove you... Carriage Contract rules via several Hague conventions for Air Travel going back to the 1960’s...
That is why the offer up money or free tickets prior to boarding... or get really generous once you have been seated....
The lead gate agent and management of that Gate are the criminals here not the Doctor or the Pilots...or the flight crew... the gate agents own the passengers till the door is closed, and the beacon is turned on, then the flight crew is responsible.
The Gate Agent and Airport Police are going to get hammered big time... I bet the Airport Police get jail time and the Gate Agent does too...
Sure. Once that guy was seated, ticket paid on that plane, he had fulfilled his end of the contract. The airline then arbitrarily violated that contract by “randomly” selecting him for involuntary ejection and when he didn’t accept that selection, brought in private security for violent action.
The property owner uses his property to earn money by these contracts. If that property owner choose to abridge those services, he is no longer in the business, is he?
If you were the one sitting in that seat and you had people waiting for you would you have calmly caved in?
If so, you wouldn’t been of much use during our Revolution.
This does seem to be a perfect storm of really bad decisions by everybody involved.
Apparently someone in United management made the call.
Chicago Airport Police showed up. There is some dispute at to whether they even had jurisdiction to board the aircraft.
They’re all suspended and there are even calls for the Chicago Airport Police to be disbanded.
To put it in terms that Alberta Child would understand: In ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ sheriff Buford T Justice of Texas is out of his jurisdiction in Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia and can’t beat, arrest, and detain a little old man.
I know, I know, you saw that movie and cried and were outraged that Jackie Gleason didn’t get to make an arrest and beat people up and no one will watch that movie with you anymore. Or the sequel.
Word to the wise ... turning every situation that gets plastered all over the TV news into a civil rights case is something I'd expect from Al Sharpton and Van Jones, not intelligent people here on FreeRepublic.
If you were the one sitting in that seat and you had people waiting for you would you have calmly caved in?
I would have gotten off the plane, rented a car, and driven the four hours to my destination. Heck -- I'd never take a commercial flight to a destination I can reach by car in four hours in the first place.
And it wouldn't have been "caving in," either -- because I would have addressed the matter directly with the CEO of United Airlines afterward.
It's happened to me any number of times, and I've found that you get the best results that way.
That's a gross mischaracterization. What is your agenda?
The flight crew requested help removing an out of control mentally disturbed passenger with 80 or so other passengers aboard.
Calling that "a hit" is a remarkable, puzzling interpretation of what actually happened.
“Guilty by association.”
That’s what I think. After all it’s their airplane.
Double straw man for extra credit?
UA did not commit the act of physical violence against Dr. Dao.
And I did not say that he breached the contract of carriage - I think it is easily arguable that UA did, however it is still a requirement for the airline to position its flight crews to not disrupt the flow of flights.
You appear to be arguing out of emotion, rather than intellect. I am trying to show that UA is not in the right here, but they appear to have screwed up while trying to remain within the operational rules they are bound to follow.
UA appears to have “acted stupidly”. But they are NOT responsible for the over-reaction of the airport police.
moehoward: "He was beaten while still in the seat. Theres video of the non-uniform goon throwing many fists. The teeth and nose reconstruction likely occurred at that time. That is unless they continued beating true doctor once out of view of the other passengers. Concussion probably the result of his head being thrown against the armrest."
COBOL2Java: Man dragged off United flight has concussion, will file suit, lawyer says (link contains statement from the passenger's lawyer and daughter describing the extent of his injuries)
But, I guess there are those for whom this icon is apropos:
I have not seen anything official that mentions the pilots being involved, just internet posts.
Yes, you apparently always do cave - a four hour drive instead of getting the product you paid for.
Then your response would be to write a biting, pithy letter to the CEO?
Pathetic. Dr. Dao showed about 400% more manhood than that.
If he wins his lawsuit, hope he rakes in millions. And you enjoy your nice long drive.
P.S.: each and every time an airline tried to pull that “overbooked” crap on me, I raised holy hell - and won. We will continue to be pounded back into the background of our own country until we act like men again.
Unless, of course, you’re not a man - then all of your responses make sense.
As soon as you qualify for a position in American Airlines management, you can straighten them all out...
Always the Free Republic Nazis who first thing is check how long you been on Free Republic. Kind of creepy if you ask me. Creep.
