FULL TITLE: Angry United Airlines pilots' union issue statement denying ALL responsibility for forcible removal of doctor last week and say Chicago cops are to blame
The United Airline's pilots union released a statement on Thursday regarding Dr. David Dao's violent removal from Flight 3411 originating out of Chicago on Sunday.
The union contended that the Chicago Department of Aviation's 'grossly inappropriate response' was to blame for the events that transpired, according to the United Master Executive Council's statement.
The United Master Executive Council represents the airline's 12,500 pilots.
The statement also pointed out that the plane from which Dr. Dao was ejected was one of which that was separately owned and operated by Republic Airlines.

Case closed. Give him a refund for his airline ticket and send him home with a lollipop.
Important point. Glad you pointed it out. Granted, the typical United flight attendant looks to be fully capable of administering a beat down, but I agree that in this case, it would be the police who are to blame for excessive use of force. The Chris Rock rule applies.
I saw no aircrew members in any of the various videos..................
I'm not familiar with flight insurance, but my understanding is that it is really intended to cover a situation where you have to cancel a trip as opposed to rescheduling/rebooking a flight.
Thinking back to my LAST flight, it was on American Eagle, also owned by Republic, similar plane, etc. There was ONE flight attendant.
It was an 8 am flight - so get up at 4, drive to the airport, return rental car, go through TSA, get to the gate to find that there was "something wrong with the plane" and we would have to wait until a replacement could be flown in (from wherever). That happened around 11 am. If anyone had tried to get anyone off of that plane when it finally boarded, I'm sure there would have been a similar incident.
Police deal with stubborn elderly people all the time, thousands of times a day across the country in traffic stops, on the street, answering calls...
And yet somehow they avoid beating the elderly to pieces and sending them to the hospital with a severe concussion.
But keep being a power bottom for out of control police, you get off on it.
Personally, I wouldn't put an elderly relative on a flight to/from O'Hare, it's too dangerous for someone that may get tired and cantankerous.
Wrong. They had a choice.
Regards,
Dao suffered "a significant concussion as a result of disembarking that plane," Demetrio said at a news conference in Chicago. He also lost two front teeth, has a broken nose and incurred injuries to his sinuses, and will be "undergoing reconstructive surgery in that regard," Demetrio said.
Senior citizens are a protected class. Beat them bloody and face enhanced penalties - no different than a child.
I understand about having to transport jumpcrews. I also understand the jumpcrew wasn’t needed until the following day. Which brings up this point:
“United flies 4 nonstops each Sunday from it’s Chicago hub to Louisville, and there was still one flight scheduled a few hours later.”
https://consumerist.com/2017/04/11/united-says-controversial-flight-wasnt-overbooked-airline-crew-just-needed-the-seats-more/
So there’s that. And then there’s this:
‘Chicago’s aviation officers are not part of the regular police force, unlike in many other big cities. They get less training than regular officers...They are allowed in the terminal and baggage area, but my understanding is they may not be allowed on a plane,’ he said. Zalewski also said that he is not sure if the officers have the authority to make arrests or if they are authorized only to write tickets.’
And this, which needs to be verified: According to what I read at the officer.com CASO subforum (pages 1,10,11), POST training for ASO is 12 weeks vs 26 weeks for CPD, no street training, minorities pushed through. CPD has been fighting ASO over the wearing of ‘police’ jackets/stars because of ASO’s abbreviated training (reminds me of the difference between LVN and RN maybe?).
Our civil liberties - and all of our rights - depend on our will to insist on them.
Holding our nose to assist security should not be confused with abandoning our citizenship.
2. Every report I've seen on this incident suggests that the guy was injured when his head struck the armrest of a seat while he was being dragged out of his seat. That's hardly a case of getting the crap beat out of him, don't you think?
"On April 9, 2017, United Express Flight 3411, operated by Republic, was preparing to depart Chicago OHare (ORD) to Louisville (SDF). Republic Airline made the decision to assign four of their crewmembers to deadhead on Flight 3411 within minutes of the scheduled departure."
To this point, I've been willing to presume ignorance and confusion on the part of FReepers who have gotten it wrong. The presumption is about to shift.
Show me the law that says UA can unilaterally decide to drag a passenger out of his seat and beat the hell out of him for no reason. Exactly which part of the contract of carriage do you think Mr. Dao breached?
“”I also believe this man was with his wife. What was she supposed to do? “”
Is that the woman who ran to the front after they’d gotten to the door of the plane? I wondered if it was someone who was traveling with him. I’m sure she was pretty traumatized to see what has happening if that was her husband. A woman on the aisle was yelling her objections and I would think that would be anyone’s reaction witnessing that scene.
The big brute hauling the passenger out of his seat isn’t dressed like any airport security I’ve ever seen - not even one of the jackbooted thugs they hire for security at various entrance points onto an airport.
What does the term "civil liberty" mean when you're on someone else's property?
United will pay hugely for this. The rent-a-thug "security" team should go to prison for assault.
Case closed.
Grow up.
“That’s hardly a case of getting the crap beat out of him, don’t you think? “
He was beaten while still in the seat. There’s video of the non-uniform goon throwing many fists. The teeth and nose reconstruction likely occurred at that time. That is unless they continued beating true doctor once out of view of the other passengers. Concussion probably the result of his head being thrown against the armrest.
