The most iconic rifle of the 20th century is the AK-47. One of the most iconic rifles of World War II granted, this is more debatable is the Mosin-Nagant. Both were developed in Russia. The SKS, short for Self-Loading Carbine of the Simonov System, is the odd one out. Not a copy of the M1, it’s a poorly executed 2/3 scale model of the FN49 (SAFN). I’ve owned and used both, know what I’m on about. Given a magazine and cleaned up trigger, and a couple or three inches off the barrel length I’d prefer it to the AK...

The SKS is, indeed, the Russian M1-Garand. Same bolt feel and quality, although the rest of the weapon is somewhat cheaper-made. Also, I’ve yet to get an SKS Thumb. :)

No, they don’t. I guess it might be about $350 now a days. I just happened to run across it when Bill Clinton was about to ban “assault weapons” and couldn’t pass it up. It lives in my wifes pickup these days.

Just bought a chinese model. Arsenal /636\ , 1975 manufacture. Absolutely pristine, all numbers matching. At $300 a hell of a deal.
