I turned auto-updates OFF in Windows 7 ages ago.

Still, occasionally, my desktop acts strange. I try a System Restore before resorting to an image restore.

Invariably, I notice that my computer received a critical update. [Note that Windows Update is still turned OFF.]

I run a System Restore at a date prior to the critical update and it seems to correct the problem.

I just did a "check for updates." There's been nothing new for several weeks. What is the KB number of the offending update?

You thought it was an update, but in reality it’s the feds’ backdoor into your life.

That’s OK, we’re used to getting it in the back door from the feds...

Yep. Works just fine for me. Win7 frozen in some previous time, that is (never allowed auto-updates in the first place).

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Thanks to Swordmaker for the ping!!

Yuo can also hide that particular critical update- that ‘might’ keep it from reinstalling at a later date- you’ll find that feature in the update box on the left hand side I believe-

Also- you’re on the Internet without having updates? Or do you manually install the critical updates yourself? It’s pretty important to keep things updated as hackers are constantly finding ways to exploit machines that aren’t updated—

Thoughts:

1) They shouldn’t be able to circumvent the Fourth Amendment like that.

2) It’s a conflict of interest to pay informants to rat people out who are presumably even less computer savvy than they, when what’s to stop them from putting the child porn or whatever contraband date there in the first place in some way that the planting is hard or impossible to detect? They could create the crime, then get paid for “reporting” it.

3) If the best the FBI can find to team up with are the Drooling Dork Squad, that’s pretty sad.

BINGO !!!! Never have done “auto” updates .. ever.

When it notices me of updates, I still have the option to say yes or no.

If I say no; after a certain amount of time, the update goes away.

My Win7 is working fine.

There were several updates yesterday but this one in particular will not install:
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4013429) - Error 0x80073701

And ever since my computer attempted to install a few times by now, I get a windows crash screen when I start the computer,
“kernal data in page error.”

I think the hard drive is going so who knows...the days are numbered on this computer.
