What progressives find humorous is if a conservative gets raped or murdered or a Christian gets beaten to the ground. I believe the standard thinking about elections is that:
33% of the country prefers Republicans
33% of the country prefers Democrats
33% of the country is undecided
Of course those statistics are not precise, but the point should be obvious: a party wins the next election if they get the support of most of the undecided.
The way the Democrats are behaving, I can’t see them getting any undecideds. Rape is not funny. Plans to assassinate the president are not likely to appeal to people who haven’t decided how they feel about the president. Riots to not endear them to the people who are focused on going to work and paying their bills.
The Dems are self-destructing and the media is throwing gasoline on the fire.

Dave Chappelle was the host, he got serious during the monologue, said (approximately) that "He'd give Donald Trump a chance, but expected Trump to give everyone a chance, too". That was as close to unbiased as it got. Frankly, it was a close echo of what I was thinking in November, I voted for Pres. Trump and mentally crossed my fingers.
Rest of the show, before I turned it off well before the ending, was a litany of "Trump Sucks" jokes. I got the humor, and saw where they were going with it. It just wasn't funny. Audience, other than a few loud people, was mostly quiet for the show, too.
I used to be a late night denizen. Loved Carson, Liked Letterman before he got old and creepy, Liked Conan OBrian, Leno, Kimmel, and especially SNL. Even watched John Stewart on occasion, he was about like a stopped clock.
Unfortunately, all of the humor has gotten old and bitter. "White Men Suck, Right?" (canned laughter) is what passes for humor the past few years, so I've turned all the late-night jesters out.
Living with Obama was like getting a colonoscopy every day for 8 years!

When they are confronted by something that conflicts with the groupthink of the cult, the cognitive dissonance feels almost like a physical assault and the cult-following part of their brain shelters into a defensive mode.
