SEATTLE/BOSTON - A federal judge in Seattle on Friday granted a nationwide temporary restraining order blocking U.S. President Donald Trump's recent action barring nationals from seven countries from entering the United States.
The judge's order represents a major challenge to the Trump administration, which is expected to immediately appeal. The judge declined to stay the order, suggesting that travel restrictions could be lifted immediately.
The challenge was brought by the state of Washington and later joined by the state of Minnesota. The Seattle judge ruled that the states have legal standing to sue, which could help Democratic attorneys general take on Trump in court on issues beyond immigration.
"It's a wonderful day for the rule of law in this country," said Washington state solicitor general Noah Purcell.
The decision came on a day that attorneys from four states were in courts challenging Trump's executive order. Trump's administration justified the action on national security grounds, but opponents labeled it an unconstitutional order targeting people based on religious beliefs.
Earlier on Friday, a federal judge in Boston on Friday declined to extend a temporary restraining order that allowed some immigrants into the United States from certain countries despite being barred by U.S. President Donald Trump's recent executive order.
Also on Friday in Virginia, a federal judge ordered the White House to provide a list of all people stopped from entering the United States by the travel ban.
The State Department said on Friday that fewer than 60,000 visas previously issued to citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen had been invalidated as a result of the order. That disclosure followed media reports that government lawyers were citing a figure of 100,000.

The judge is full of crap.
Well not so lying lawyer. The Department of Homeland Security in their public statement said - the main points:
"President Trump’s Executive Orders remain in place—prohibited travel will remain prohibited, and the U.S. government retains its right to revoke visas at any time if required for national security or public safety. President Trump’s Executive Order affects a minor portion of international travelers, and is a first step towards reestablishing control over America's borders and national security. " ...
And
"The Department of Homeland Security will faithfully execute the immigration laws, and we will treat all of those we encounter humanely and with professionalism. No foreign national in a foreign land, without ties to the United States, has any unfettered right to demand entry into the United States or to demand immigration benefits in the United States. "
Either trump stops it or the military and the people do. One or the other. Americans will prevail. Europe more dynamic depending on populist elections. If the populists in western Europe fail to take power then there will be civil wars. However eastern Europe interestingly enough will stay strong and free.
Every decision by Trump is going to be stopped to some length by a unhappy liberal judge.
Let the Supreme Court vacancy (s) battle(s) begin.

Probably would be the 9th Circus which is liberal but every now and then they get it right. This one is so obviously without merit that I think they’ll get it right. One way or another I just don’t see it standing.

Even worse, the judge’s kid runs into the terrorist and nature takes its course. Judge would live the rest of his life in a self-made hell knowing that he was the impetus for his child’s fate.

I hated Obama... couldn’t stand the man. But if he had signed this executive order, I would have applauded him for it.

"
Yes, I know. Seems to me he should know to follow federal precedence.
