Sacramento Police: Protester With Device Shuts Down Tower Bridge, Capitol Mall

4:23 p.m. UPDATE: The woman has been peacefully taken into custody after an hour and a half, and police are inspecting the vehicle.

4:10 p.m.: UPDATE: The City of West Sacramento is urging people to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The woman is still located inside the vehicle as police stage around the scene.

3:40 p.m. UPDATE: Sacramento Police have shut down the Tower Bridge and Capitol Mall. Traffic is being redirected to Interstate 80 and the I Street Bridge.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A woman claiming to have a device has shut down traffic around the Tower Bridge on Tuesday.

Sacramento Police say a protester near the bridge caused the closure of the bridge and Capitol Mall.

Police are working to contact the woman and bring a resolution to the issue.

A shelter in place order is in place for the CalSTRS building and Raley Field.

Water canons work wonders. Why are they not used anymore. If I was a mayor of one of these cities, the FD water canons would be on 24/7 standby and the first inkling of protesters would get hosed off the street as soon as they arrived. No shutting down streets and public thoroughfares.

I live an hour up in the sticks from Sacramento and I
met and a few Sacramentans who seem pretty decent
conservative types. I even became friends thru a Sac State night class with a guy
who was a liason for the state Republican
legislative caucus. Anyway, you are the first person
I’ve ever heard about that knows absolutely everyone
in SacTown. Impressive. Like Austin, TX the
town leans left with all the state workers and
politicians from even more liberal areas but some
people are pretty much OK. If you really knew
the same people I know you might even have worded
your swipe at levity a little differently.
