"He (Bob Grant) pretty much invented conservative talk radio, didn't he? " Joe Pyne. George Putnam. Barry Farber. All were very early.

Joe Pyne was the grandaddy of talk radio. Also the Wolf Man contributed, I think? Putnam, my fav. was on tv first than transitioned to talk radio along with Ray Briem. Loved them and also Gordon Liddy, et. al. Larry King was fabulous as a late night talk show host, one of the best. By the end of the night he'd go into the most creative, stream of conscious rants—not political, just funny! Art Bell was wonderful before the Clinton's must have paid him off somehow—off the scandals and onto silly stuff. Savage is the only current host who has the imagination of the old-timers. Levin is a grouchy, angry man in the image of Bob Grant without Bob's humor.

If Putnam was your fav then you must be out here in SoCal where we had the great good fortune to hear him on KIEV.
Wolfman Jack was a hoot but he mostly talked between songs and took a few phone calls. Zeidler & Zeidler. The Mighty 1090 XERB! I can’t think of any current broadcasters remotely like him. A great radio persona. I wonder how many listeners thought he was black.
I forgot Ray Briem and I used to listen to him all the time. It’s a wonder I was able to stay awake at work.
I agree with you that I find Savage entertaining. He reminds me of some ethnic New Yorkers that I knew when I was growing up in Washington DC way back when.

I’m origins.my from SoCal. I remember George Putnam well from television and radio. That was back during my apolitical youth, but I do remember the libs hated him.

The left did indeed hate George.
George liked to remind his listeners that he was a Democrat. And that he had been a member of the NAACP since maybe the 1940s, invited by Walter White himself.
My job gave me plenty of opportunity to listen to the radio and I’d catch George every day, right after Paul Harvey’s broadcast over on KABC.

My mom used to snap and bark at the tv every time George Putnam came on. She was an ‘enlightened’ 60s lib who thought conservatives were some new kind of Nazi.
His claim to be a Democrat, and member of the NAACP, finally explains why she never changed the channel .. LOL

I’ll pray for you. There aren’t many good treatments for Alzheimer’s, but you hang in there, buddy. Look at the bright side: at least with your cognitive impairment and memory failing you won’t be aware of all the function you’ve lost.

You’re a dumb dittohead. Rush was too scared to support the ban.
To: TakebackGOP
He supported the ban. Learn how to read.

Meanwhile, Ive never said anything like anything Trump says. You have no quote where Limbaugh ever says he supports the ban.
To: TakebackGOP
Meanwhile, Ive never said anything like anything Trump says. That's a statement about media handling of Trump vis-a-vis Limbaugh, and is not in any way, shape, manner, or form a statement opposing Trump.
Learn to read.

Yes, it is. It happened the day after the ban was announced. You don’t have a quote with Limbaugh supporting the ban.
To: TakebackGOP
No, it isn’t. Learn how to read. Limbaugh has repeatedly supported the ban. Don’t need a quote. You need to find one. You haven’t and you won’t.

Learn about context! Limbaugh said the quote I gave the day after Trump announced his Muslim ban. You have no quote of him supporting the ban. Limbaugh didn’t even discuss illegal immigration until Bush’s 2nd term! It’s your job to find a quote of him supporting the band, if he repeatedly supported it. “Meanwhile, I have never said anything like, anything Trump says.”
To: TakebackGOP
The gormless irony of stupid people is ever a wonder to me.
Learn about context? Seriously? That's why YOU haven't produced a quote that proves Limbaugh opposed the ban yet. In context, Limbaugh is talking about media manipulation, and not criticizing the ban at all.
Like I said: goo luck with your Alzheimer's.

You’re a moron ditto head. You can’t provide a quote. Why is Rush commenting on the media? Because they’re blaming him for Trump’s ban, which Rush says he’s never say anything like it. The others in this thread stopped replying once I gave them the quote. You’re the only one who doesn’t get it.
To: TakebackGOP
They stopped replying because you're invincibly ignorant. You have still not provided a quote.

Concur - the timing matches when Trump first talked the Muslim ban.”
You haven’t provided a quote moron. My quote is about the ban.
To: TakebackGOP
I provided you with two quotes. Go back through your ping list, or have your mommy or someone who knows how to read do it for you. In one of them, Limbaugh says that if you oppose the ban, you're on the same side as Hamas. That's an endorsement of the ban. He has endorsed the ban many other times, including reading the
Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 on the air to prove that Trump was right and his critics were mistaken about the Constitutionality of the ban.
Just because Limbaugh was not a rabid Trump supporter that doesn't make him an enemy.
Wise up.
