Macy’s says it is eliminating more than 10,000 jobs and plans to move forward with 68 store closures after a disappointing holiday shopping season. The department store chain also lowered its full-year earnings forecast.
The retailer said Wednesday that sales at its established stores fell 2.1 percent in November and December compared to the same period last year. Macy’s Inc. pointed to changing consumer behavior and said its performance reflects the challenges that are facing much of the retail industry.
As if to underscore that point, Kohl’s Corp. also reported disappointing holiday shopping numbers Wednesday. …

I’m POSITIVE there’s something in your life that is made by a liberal company. :) We can’t avoid them all but I STOPPED shopping at Target and stopped buying Bud for their pro gay marriage commercials.
I like Amazon prime free shipping and shopping and I will keep using them. Other sites won’t offer me 1 or 2 days shipping year round plus thousands of movies and music for 100 bucks a year.
We won the election. I gave up Target and Bud. That’s good enough for me.

Macy’s is doing fine. The sales decline reflects their sales moving online. Macy’s is the 4th most popular retail site on the web and as with most stores downsizing and closing, it is all a reflection of sales moving online. Macy’s has already announced that they are going to transform a fairly large area for same day pickup or returns from on line sales. That is their future as well as ours.
I haven’t heard of Marshall Fields Department store since Good Times LOL I thought it was a made up name..here in LA we used to have Montgomery Ward, then Robinsons May..when Macys linked together with Plenti, nothing but problems..my Mom has a plenti card, kept on accumulated 48 dollars of credit, never used the points..apparently they gave her a card number for someone else and its IMPOSSIBLE for her to get the money since its linked to someone else who apparently does not exist
Lets see, I need to buy clothes or something after work. Do I go straight home and buy it on my computer in the matter of a few minutes, or do I drive 25 minutes to my nearest mall and walk around until I find a shirt I like, then drive an extra 25 minutes home? Choices.
Kohls announced horrible results of their own today...Christmas didn’t help in the least.
They’ve already closed many stores...one wonders how much more they can trim and if those cuts will somehow ensure profitability.

However, the shoppers of American are so brainwashed, that if they think they can't get something on sale, then they are not buying. Instead of having every day low prices, shoppers want fake prices with lower on sale prices.
Penney's almost lost their shirt because of this and they still have not fully recovered.

Well in the latter case, you already have the shirt in hand and you have the option of using cash. If that’s not your primary concern, then the former would apply, even probably lower overall costs with shipping factored in.
Yes, you can't buy any department store "house brand" these days. The Macy's brands Alfani and Tasso Elba are particularly bad - even though they feel like burlap on the skin they probably fit the Bangladeshi men who make them very well. :)
These brands are actually fake clothes, for people who don't have the money to buy real ones.
Macy’s thinks our money isn’t green enough. I didn’t spend one cent in the store this year. Or in Target...
