Because its not complicated enough already, Windows 10s Start menu will support folders in a forthcoming release.
The Windows 10 Redstone 2 release, also dubbed the Creators Update, will allow apps to be nested, much as with Windows Phone 8, and the mobile edition of Windows 10. The update is expected around April, and aggregates work since the Anniversary Update in early August. Around a dozen builds have been released via the Insider Preview program since the official announcement in October.
The folders appear in an unofficial leaked build (14997) and MS Power User blog has a nice GIF of them in action, here.
The leaked build also showcases new tab behaviour in the Edge browser, and a system wide night mode, which reduces the blue light emitted by the display.
Its a mystery why Microsoft deemed Start screen folders acceptable for mobile users, but not desktop users.
Windows 10s current Start menu/screen thing is a complex hybrid of the Windows 8 start screen and the Windows XP/7 menu.
Like the sex organs of the duck, it's an inexplicable evolutionary artefact.
A Thing.
“It also applies to autistic tech martyrs trying and failing to get a pity party started for themselves.”
Which also describes the same people. Finally you are catching on!
Some in my exposure will not function under virtual, particularly if a dongle is involved.
... and yet you're not. Typical.
people like him apparently think the ‘new forums’ here (Where pages don’t refresh quickly or at all sometimes- and clicking on links to the articles leaves you hanging) which don’t work well are just fine and people shouldn’t complain and shouldn’t want to go back to what worked better-
“... and yet you’re not. Typical.”
I can actually use these fancy-dancy tech gadgets thingamajigs without curling into a ball in the corner. New ideas and approaches with these machines are things I can dive right into and utilize the potential and not recoil in horror like I’ve been molested because an icon looks different.
So no. I’m not one of those people.
Yeah, that’s exactly what it is. Totally nailed it..../s
FR is a bit of a throwback, but as far as being able to digest a tremendous number of articles and comment upon them rapidly in a compact manner, or delve into the matter in depth as you wish, it’s got very few rivals. Functionality has been slowly degrading for many years, though. Pity, that.
Pardon me, but you've shown few signs of human empathy whatsoever, so I guess your feelings wouldn't be hurt if I questioned whether you'd actually be classified as "people" at all. You clearly prefer the company of electronic devices, but only those utilizing MS software. So, perhaps you're just a bot run amok? Should I post one of those distorted alpha-numeric "prove you're not a bot" thingies, just to be certain, lol?
I’m not knocking Fr- There was someone on FR the other day pleading for FR to be ‘updated’ to something more flashy- even suggesting it needed ads- The majority of people responded negatively- wanting to keep what obviously works well and is easy to navigate quickly- there were some posters in that thread however who felt the need to berate others for ‘rejecting change’- it was the same kind of thing we see in this thread-
FR format is one of the best on the net- many many articles to skim very rapidly the excerpts- deciding if one wants to read the full thread or not- I’ve not found another site as good-
The functionality I’m talking about was after the server went down recently- ever since it came back online- pages take forever to load- links sit there leaving you hanging- and it gets so bad that I give up waiting and move on-
There’s a bit of a generational thing going on. Many of the long-time posters here love to reply long form and in depth. This can be invaluable if you’re very involved in the particular topic at hand. But, if it’s peripheral to your interests, it’s an annoying eternity on a mobile device to scroll past it.
Certain religious beliefs seem to lead to the worst of them, I’ve taken to calling them “holy scrollers.” I’d turn off the Religion Forum, but am interested in participating. There are others who post treatises on political topics as well.
If there were a way to keep the full FR as is, but create “FR Lite” for mobile devices, that would open up a whole new world of potential future FReepers. Reddit demonstrates that there are plenty who are quite capable and who would be interested. I don’t think they “get” how we interact as it stands, though.
the solution would be to include a ‘read more’ button to each individual post (were just an excerpt shows- say a couple of liens or so) that could be chosen to either activate or not by individual phone users-
“so I guess your feelings wouldn’t be hurt if I questioned whether you’d actually be classified as “people” at all.”
No, because it’s just a lame attempt at getting a “dig” in.
“You clearly prefer the company of electronic devices”
Nope.
“but only those utilizing MS software.”
Wrong again.
“So, perhaps you’re just a bot run amok? “
You aren’t very good at this at all.
Thanks for the screen shot, still looks like an iFag smartphone rather than a PC.
I did fix the interface on the wife’s W8 laptop so I could try and navigate the damn thing, but why should I have to?
Thank you SO MUCH. It could save the day maybe — give me a better outlook on life.
Bttt
I didn’t say anything in this thread except how you enjoy shilling for Microsoft’s latest mistakes.
You’re the one who is insulting people, somehow trying to convince them they’re wrong. Just like Hillary’s campaigners who called Trump voters racists and misogynists and then wondered why they didn’t vote for Hillary.
I’ve got Windows 10 on all my machines at home. The bare codebase may be better than buttered toast, but that’s not the part users care about.
If the codebase is what was advertised, then a Windows 10 desktop is like a Corvette with an F-16 cockpit instead of an automobile driver’s seat. Don’t expect a lot of car enthusiasts to buy Corvettes outfitted in such a way.
I’m so happy for you if you love Metro so much. It was an attempt at making it easier for grandmas to use desktops after learning phone and tablet interfaces - a very poor attempt.
Me? Not so much. I learned Windows more than a decade before messing with smartphones and tablets.
jeepers- i was recently looking at crappy little tablets (for portable ‘digital painting’- untethered to a computer) and the prices were like twice the price of those in the links you gave- and not nearly as powerful- the price of convenience I guess-
LOL. You sure do like to throw insults at your fellow FReepers, don't you.
So tell ya what. Next year you're going to be forced to buy a new car, and the steering wheel is replaced by a joystick, and the driver sits in the passenger seat.
Facing backwards.
But hey, no problem VDK, because you've got mirrors. LOTS of mirrors, and they flash at you to sell you things. Because that's what your "car" has become -- a vehicle for selling you things.
Geez, gimme a freakin' break. A computer is a tool. Changing the fundamentals of how a tool works, simply so that it can be called "NEW", is bullshite marketing.
In my work with Win10 for the past 2 years, I have found nothing that the Metro/Win8/Win10 tiled start page does, that is USEFUL and PRODUCTIVE, that the Win7 Start Menu doesn't also do, and IMO, better.
You're welcome to your positive opinion of Metro, and you're welcome to think what you want about people who don't like it. But don't expect that professionals like me who work with lots of these systems every day necessarily share your opinion about it.
In any case, maligning your fellow FReepers is uncalled for.
“”These people are WORTHLESS. They have yet to figure out that not every human has the same capacity for stupid shit as they.””
Couldn’t have said it better. I have been steaming over having Windows 10 installed against my will mid summer - done in front of my eyes and I couldn’t stop it short of manually turning off the computer. Updates on 11/8 messed it up royally. I have been fighting it since then and will take my desktop to my computer guy next week. He asked over the phone if I wanted him to uninstall 10 and install 7. My son in law said he would do it for me but I told him I didn’t want to do that. What do freepers think? A good idea or not? I can ignore the things I don’t want/need/use on 10 but I can’t ignore websites NOT RESPONDING over and over hundreds of times a day!
Anyone want to chime in on the idea of wiping 10 out and reinstalling 7? I can think of something else I would rather WIPE OUT!!!
Is this spring time change going to affect ALL Windows 10?
