There’s a bit of a generational thing going on. Many of the long-time posters here love to reply long form and in depth. This can be invaluable if you’re very involved in the particular topic at hand. But, if it’s peripheral to your interests, it’s an annoying eternity on a mobile device to scroll past it.

Certain religious beliefs seem to lead to the worst of them, I’ve taken to calling them “holy scrollers.” I’d turn off the Religion Forum, but am interested in participating. There are others who post treatises on political topics as well.

If there were a way to keep the full FR as is, but create “FR Lite” for mobile devices, that would open up a whole new world of potential future FReepers. Reddit demonstrates that there are plenty who are quite capable and who would be interested. I don’t think they “get” how we interact as it stands, though.

the solution would be to include a ‘read more’ button to each individual post (were just an excerpt shows- say a couple of liens or so) that could be chosen to either activate or not by individual phone users-
