I bought the “Parallel Lines” album when it came out - the song “Don’t Leave Me Hanging On The Telephone” was why, along with Debbie Harry’s appearance on the cover. Kind of lost interest in the band after that album.

Artists like Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, and Kurtis Blow had been rapping since the mid-'70s, and The Sugarhill Gang had the first Top 40 hit earlier in 1980 with "Rapper's Delight," but until "Rapture," rap had never been incorporated into a hit pop song.

I read somewhere that she and some of the band members were recreational drug users early on, but got really addicted to some bad sh!t for a brief period in the late 1980s. She’s probably been clean for a long time.
