Most aldermen, most politicians are hos," corrupt Chicago Ald. Arenda Troutman said, rather famously, on federal tape.
She wasn't speaking about gardening tools, was she?
Troutman was talking about the politics of Chicago, which is, if you've forgotten, the political corruption capital of the United States.
Troutman represented the South Side's 20th Ward. At her 2009 sentencing, she squirted a few tears, sobbed, prayed, begged and then got four years in federal prison anyway.
And on Wednesday her replacement, Ald. Willie Cochran, a former Chicago police officer who campaigned as something of a corruption buster, was himself indicted on federal corruption charges.
His alleged crimes? That he looted a charity fund for seniors and shook down a developer for bribes and squeezed a liquor store owner while spending the money on gambling and a little on college tuition for his child.

That city needs an exorcism
And it’s been that way for decades
Yet no one wants to do anything about it. It’s laughable when the Dimwits utter anything about integrity or corruption, etc. Just point out Chicago and they shut right up, even the most partisan can’t defend its politics
Most major, no all major northern cities , and many in the south need it.
Steve Dahl for Mayor? At least the corruption would be funnier.
obama said himself in 2008 I believe that there is voter fraud, and how corruption is rife.
Chicago is the very best political soap opera ever. So many twists and turns. Wonderful political gymnastics.
Anybody I ask, whom have been a few, readily agrees, “Oh yeah, Daley threw the 1960 election for Kennedy!”
Of course, this was accepted knowledge, by all sides, in that era, complete with details on the shuffling of rigged voting machines by truck.
When I look this up online now, all I see is mealy-mouthed equivocation. Nothing in the way of denial or refutation. And now, by contrast, we have the spectre of “Russian interference” being thrown up at us, even though this had nothing to do with the electoral process, per se, not to mention the campaign for a revolt in the Electoral College, something unheard of in our national history.
Let us steel ourselves!
Illinois is sick with corruption. Chicago is the center. Maybe Trump can focus the IRS off the Tea Party and on Illinois politicians. Put their SWAT team to good use.
What is worse is the people know the Rats are corrupt and keep electing them.
Hard to say if Chicago is more corrupt than other places. The corruption is institutionalized. So its hard to say whats illegal any more. Just the fact that there are 50 wards is crazy. The aldermens’ jobs are really to push and pull the city services to benefit one person at the expense of someone else. There is no need for 50 aldermen. Their wards are as gerrymandered as the worst congressional districts. And Chicago has several of those.
But I would say aldermen are all pikers compared to the city unions. Unions have a fraud that is costing far more than anything this or any other aldermen will steal.
Maybe he can kill corruption like he killed disco.
Are there any Chicagoan Freepers that can do a little investigation for me? This regards a possible link between Harry Reid, marijuana, possibly the mob and a Chicago lawyer.
All anonymous, by Freepmail.
Not one.
You think Steve Dahl is funny? I can't spin the dial over to WGN and the Roe Conn show fast enough to get away from Dahl.
I listen to Steve and gang daily from the wilds of Nevada. That crew should be running that town. It would be MUCH more entertaining than Rahm and company.
He certainly killed "funny" on the radio. He's sucked for years now.
‘That city needs an exorcism’
As a resident, the city actually needs an enema....
