This is the time of year when the daily temps fluctuate greatly before we settle into Winter. That said, lows in the 30s are normal for this time of year. When Old man Winter makes himself at home, our lows average in the 20s, but I have seen some weather systems bring temps that were well below zero.

Meanwhile, it is a chilly 75 degrees here in Florida and residents are wearing jeans, sweaters, and boots. Brrrrrr.

Michigan will begin paying the piper tomorrow. Back in 1984 or so I grew tomatoes until Thanksgiving. Weather just cycles.

I was stationed in Denver in 1974.
In September of that year, we had a new record for hot on a certain day, I think it was around 88-90°.
Then, that night it snowed...................

Dang, I was about to use the north pole as a giant cyrogenic storage base to freeze people so they can be brought back to life when the science improves.

Hey WAPO, its called weather! Last week it was in the mid 70s here. Last night we had frost and its going to be in the low 50s. The great white North shares a lot of characteristic with deserts in that temperatures can vary widely from day to day at certain times of the year.
I just checked the weather in Barrow Alaska, 320 miles North of the Arctic Circle, the northernmost city in the United States. They are expecting a balmy high of 11F today along with 36 minutes of sunlight. Probably not a lot of sea ice is going to be melting today or over the next several months.

In recent years, we’ve had snow in November. Not a tremendous amount but we have had snow.
But it has been a beautiful November this year.

Notice that blob of -36 degree colder-than-normal air that surged
out of the Arctic???
Here is the background story of the polar vortex shift from a week ago.
http://www.newscats.org/2016/11/10/polar-vortex-centers-over-asia-with-la-nina/
The polar vortex mischief is upon us again--colder air out and warmer air drawn in. For now that cold is descending into Asia.

Where did they pull their data from?
Give it a sniff. I'm sure you'll be able to tell what they pulled it out of.

If you look at their graphic depiction, they show two large areas, of about the same size, one that is about 35 degrees warmer than average and one that is about 35 degrees colder than average.This.
