EarthSky ^ | November 13, 2016 | Bruce McClure

The full moon of November 14, 2016 is not only the biggest, closest and brightest supermoon of this year. It’s the closest supermoon since January 26, 1948. Should you watch for this full moon on the night of November 14? Sure, and, if you do, it’ll be beautiful. But, for us in the Americas the moon is closer to full on the night of November 13.

The moon turns precisely full on November 14, 2016 at 13:52 UTC. This full moon instant will happen in the morning hours before sunrise November 14 in western North America and on many Pacific islands, east of the International Date Line...

The moon won’t come this close to Earth again until November 25, 2034...

Want the exact time of full moon for North American time zones? Okay, so the moon will reach the crest of its full phase on November 14 at 13:52 UTC. That translates to 9:52 a.m. AST, 8:52 a.m. EST, 7:52 a.m. CST, 6:52 a.m. MST, 5:52 a.m. PST...

Is the Supermoon triggering the earthquakes in New Zealand and Argentina?

Interesting factoid:
Last super moon like this happened about 2 months after state of Isreal was formed.

Yeah yeah, now every full moon claims to be a supermoon.

I’m getting tired of these snowflake planetary bodies.

I think we should just get back to STEM moons and leave it at that.

Is the Supermoon triggering the earthquakes in New Zealand and Argentina? Very likely yes. It is 14% closer than usual.

I went out last night about 3:00 Am EST and just marveled. That was far and away the brightest moonlight I have ever seen. I had a triple header. The moon was (nearly) full, quite large and it was a crystal clear night where I live.

Nope.

I've had it with planetary posturing.

Good chance it is at least contributing to it. The moon has a long known affect on tides, a celestial body that close has a great gravitational affect on the planet.

Solar activity is also having an effect though. Historically the times of reduced solar activity have also coincided with periods of increased geological activity. One of the worst earthquakes in US history was along the New Madrid fault in 1810. This was also at the end of the Dalton Minimum, which also saw some of the most harsh winters in history.

Several good general articles here

Here is an article dealing with geological activity and solar activity. Interesting read.

I was wondering about that too.

I slept for 14 hours last night. Went to bed at 7am and woke up for good at 9am this Sunday morning. Woke up several times. Many vivid dreams including one in which my recently deceased dog (Sep 10) came back to life, albeit in a garden on the second floor balcony of my home. That dream alone is probably worthy of a separate post but it haunted me all day today. My dog was alive again and thriving on that second floor balcony where it was spring even though below it was late autumn heading into winter.

Last week at this time, I was operating on minimal sleep. Staying up late to see the Trump rallies and getting up at 4:30 in morning to head to Manhattan. Election night, I pulled pretty much an all-nighter. I was so tired last night!

Now I am caught up on my sleep and looking forward to Super Moon as Donald Trump prepares to take over the presidency of the United States. And my late dog is still very much with me in spirit.
