The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread.
Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Another day of great weather today. A bit cooler, but lots of sunshine. Busy day today. Canned 2 batches of beef roasts, and spent the rest of the day in the garden, then off to strength training for two hours. Just got in, grabbed an unsweetened lemonade and straight to the computer.
Garden activities today consisted of getting ready for the predicted freezing temps tonight. Collected all the green tomatoes and found some nice red ones that were hidden in the flower beds. Some of the green ones on halfway decent vines, were snipped vines and all, then stuck them in a container of potting mix to possibly root as they ripen.
Collected a few persimmons. Brought in a pot of endive. Ran out of time to row cover the Garlic, and lettuce, but hope it does ok - it is a winter variety and supposed to be hardy.
Hope you are all doing well. Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Pinging the List.
FIRST!!!
No photos from the Left Coast as my Photo Files blowed up real good. Waiting for my Guru to show up Monday to retrieve them (I Hope)
I went for what may be the last motorcycle ride of the season this afternoon. It was so windy it almost kncked me over at a red light, and it was a struggle to maintain control. PLUS it was c-c-cold. Brrrrr....
Time to set up the ol’ gal for hibernation.
(The Bike, not me)
Here
Wow - you went out today? Very windy! and cold! You’re tough.
You win the blue ribbon.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Hope your guru can salvage them.
I was shivering after my workout, riding in the car, even though I had on a warm flannel type jacket. Will soon be needing to drag out the winter coats and gloves.
How are you doing this wonderful Friday?
Still in the 90s here in SoCal. Everything is terribly dry and I gave up on flowers and am in the process of switching out to succulents when my shrubs die. I’ve lost some plants that felt like old friends.
Sitting in the Denver airport waiting on a ride home; been at the Frontier Airline school.
So sorry to hear about those losses. Good idea to switch to something more drought tolerant.
What are the rules on collecting rain water there? How much rain, if any have you had this year?
Oh gee - I remember what it’s like to be stuck in an airport on Friday night. Used to get stuck in Chicago now and then - always had looooong flight delays to get back to St. Louis.
We cleaned out one of the raised beds dedicated to tomatoes. They’d just run out of gas.
Still have dozens of good looking peppers growing and even blossoms flowering...
I have a few options with other airlines that are close so I’m just waiting on a PA call. I’m good, have my laptop, snacks, juice, kicking back.
Are you expecting frost tonight?
Lots more entertaining than when I was traveling - before we had lightweight laptops, notepads, and cell phones.
