People are furious after pictures of a Florida Walmart's 9/11-themed Coke display began to circulate on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.
Twitter user Shawn Richard tweeted a picture of the display, which presented Coke Zero in place of Ground Zero and spurred thousands of angry retweets about the beverage company's marketing ploy.
We stopped and stared at it, like oh my God, Richard said, according to BuzzFeed News. Nobody seemed to be noticing it. It wasnt very crowded, and I got the feeling that it had just been assembled. So, we took some pics and went on our way.
Orlando Weekly reports the display has been taken down and Walmart initially approved the design.
In less than two days, the post has more than 2,500 retweets and 4,100 likes.

Someone didn’t think that through.

I’m looking at the display, and I find myself distinctly not outraged.

15 years later and the loss of thousands of lives in NY, PA, and DC is remembered by a great deal on Coca Cola. . .
Shameful.

People who fake outrage at the display probably had no outrage on 911.

It is using 9/11 (wherein 3,000 people were murdered in horrific fashion) to sell Coca-Cola. What next? Pearl Harbor Commemoration Day to sell Mikimoto Pearls? D-Day Disney World Discounts?

I’m not seeing anything particularly outrageous. Looks like the Twin Towers to me.

A couple of loony twitter posts = “sparks outrage”. A total nothingburger.
To: Sacajaweau
I can see how they considered it supportive.
I’ll give them a pass.

So what was so offensive about facts and history.......

The orthophosphoric acid and high-fructose corn syrup should spark outrage. This display should not spark outrage.

Me too. We SHOULD never forget!! Coke is giving pause to that event. Now Pepsi, on the other hand looks like the Obama symbol. I shudder when I walk by that logo.
