Tom Hanks is perfect in the thrilling Sully
Sully breathtakingly depicts what may be the most remarkable half-hour in NYC history.
Six minutes after taking off from LaGuardia Airport on Jan. 15, 2009, Capt. Chesley Sully
Sullenberger (a terrific Tom Hanks) safely glided his disabled passenger jet onto the
Hudson River. In 24 minutes, all 155 passengers and crew members were safely evacuated.

Wouldn't urinate on him if he were on fire. Won't spend the hard earned on a movie he's in.
isn’t his wife responsible for the pro-homosexual flop of my big fat greek wedding 2?
Hanks and his wife produced both Big Fat movies.
A good actor can overcome a bad director, and a good director can make a bad actor look good. Pair up a great actor and a great director and it should make for a great movie.
It’s actually restrained
These people you laud detest us and our heritage but you’re in love with how you imagine Tom Hanks is
When I hear him compared to Jimmy Stewart I throw my shoe at the screen
Stewart was a real man who loved and fought for his country beyond that required btw
Hanks and his butt buddy are just the opposite
They are self righteous preachers lecturing us from the mean streets of Malibu or Topanga Canyon
Eff them
The only reason they made World War Two movies half ass good is that there is one thing they hate even more than American traditionalism......and that’s Nazis
And they see a Nazi behind every white patriotic face
Btw....you just posted the thread...don’t take it personal
Have you seen, “Bridge of Spies”?
It is not a flattering depiction of cold war communism.
Btw why are you whining?
You got plenty Love Tom Hanks Fellow travelers on board
This is Free Republic you know
IT’s a NY story. Naturally, the NY reviewer will love the movie.
That same day I flew out of Newark in the AM. The day before my coworker and me had a business trip to NYC and we noted how many geese were hanging around and in the dead of winter to boot.
You simple cannot be shocked by that. We all know the quality of a movie is determined by the politics of it's lead actor.
They don’t hold a candle to Jimmy Stewart. Even late into his career, he maintained his Air Force Reserve status and was even on a B-52 mission over North Vietnam.
I wonder if they will have music by “Flock of Seagulls”.
We're all taught to be thinking ahead all the time; always looking for things that could be going wrong; and having some plan about what to do when something is going wrong. Every pilot's first check-ride includes a loss of power emergency. For me it was a descent to some grass field. (Without actually landing but enough to give the examiner some confidence that I could have landed. And, of course, there were many similar things practiced with my instructor before I got to taking that first check-ride.) No pilot intentionally makes a water landing without pontoons, but we've all read about how it should be done.
So Sullenberger made his decision, pretty much split second, and carried it out. Maybe he had simulator experience, that guys like me never have had. But whatever, I don't think landing the plane on the river could have been that difficult for him. And it was all over in a matter of minutes.
How can this be made into an hour and a half movie?
ML/NJ
I am not a Tom Hanks fan. Too bad he is in this, I won’t ever watch it because of that.
ok, the second one was a PC forced feed fiasco. NONE of the original charm of the first movie. Written like a stoned Harvard humanities professor tyring to figure out where the burning man festival was in Colorado and why all the road signs read “North Dakota”
Saw the preview, the other night before seeing Hillary’s America.
Very impressive.
Was a bit surprised to see Hanks and Eastwood working together....opposite ends of the political spectrum.
Showing how you put politics aside and work together....professionalism.
You've got that right! Liberals were absolutely terrified of her. They hated Reagan, hated Nixon, hate Trump, but went to the depths to smear and vilify her (and her family).
Hanks was great in Bridge of Spies. Not a blockbuster, but I enjoyed it immensely.
“Only hollyqierd can take a several minute affair and turn it into a several hour movie.”
This is what stops me from going to see this. I know the story. I saw the actual video a million times. Heard the audio.
How can they make this into a full length movie without being boring?
Saw a brief trailer with a split-second scene showing the plane threading through skyscrapers. I hate it when movies over dramatize history, but I reckon that’s what they have to do to make money.
