The incident happened during the lunch period, and the district was still working to determine how many students were involved and where the hot peppers came from, said Superintendent Brad Ritchey of Milton-Union Exempted Village Schools.
Police and emergency crews were called to the school on Milton-Potsdam Road. The investigation revealed all involved students took these peppers voluntarily, according to police.
In total, five students were taken to local hospitals and approximately 40 students ages 11 to 14 had ingested the peppers.
The response of emergency services was amazing; deputies and help from surrounding paramedics we really had a lot of help here this afternoon, Ritchey said. This was serious but sometimes situations at schools become far more serious than this.
Ritchey said symptoms ranged from blotchy skin, hives, tearing of eyes, sweating and general discomfort.
Cody Schmidt, an eighth-grader at the school, said he tried one of the peppers and it was in fact really hot.

One of my coworkers recounted a first date to a sushi restaurant where they had some menu item that was crazy hot and i believe it was a “you eat free” if you consumed it. He figured, “hey, I’m Mexican, I can handle hot stuff”. He said he started to question the wisdom when he was asked to sign a waiver, and the unease grew when the kitchen staff mobilized out to watch. It did not end well...
He did get a second date though, ARF!
100 to 1 the damn school will suspend some kids.
Boys being boys is ILLEGAL.
It sounds like they were involved in a really dumb prank or dare.
From such experiences, wisdom is gained—if one is smart enough to learn the lesson.
".....no....I no peppers....no"
Oh my!
Anaheim is about my limit.
I don’t even have jalepenos, anymore.
Well geezus, no shiite Sherlock, Ghost peppers are serious business.. I doubt even East L.A. Schools would serve them.
My wife gained a new appreciation for the mildness of Habaneros after I bought a Ghost pepper plant and used it in a few recipes. Scorpion peppers are another cut higher, and almost useless for anything but pain.

Ooops, slow FR post click button.
Now we are having an investigation?
If the kids were forced to eat them, that is one thing. As it is they volunteered for the pain and they got it.
Has the school nothing better to do?

"Louisiana" hot sauce isn't hot enough for me. I mix 12oz of it half and half with vinegar, 3 heaping teaspoons cayenne and 1 teaspoon salt.
The hottest pepper I ever ate was at chinese place.
The waiter laughed at me and said”Fiwa Quacka”.
Sounds like you need some ghost peppers :)
