This has been on my mind and chest for a long time and basically I want to get your views on this topic.
Everyone says we need to save/rescue the mainstream middle class from oblivion and basically do what we can to bring jobs.
To be honest, I'm all for letting the mainstream middle class sink or swim. I don't like how the mainstream whine about people on welfare being dependent on the government, but want the government to create laws and policies to protect their interests.
They want student loans forgiven, but keep taking out massive loans for prestigious schools that won't really do much for them after graduation. It's not like graduating from Harvard will end up with them being on the Social Register or going to society balls. Getting worthless degrees.
No one FORCED them to take out huge loans and basically get houses and cars they couldn't afford otherwise. Maxing out the credit cards for designer gear; Fendi and Versace aren't utility companies.
Would it really be such a bad thing if things go belly up and people are forced to basically forgo their unsustainable lifestyle and live according to the reality of their means.
I agreed with what he said up until he said he thought the world was going to end when Bill Clinton was elected president and it didn’t happen.
The fact is it did happen. The U.S. has been on an ever increasing free fall ever since Clinton became president. I remember what things were like under Ronald Reagan, and then Bush the Elder. Bush the Elder was pretty mediocre, but the tilt and then acceleration towards the bottom didn’t begin to occur until Clinton got in.
And the thing that still pisses me off is that Clinton would not have been electable but for Perot pullling votes away from the Republicans. Then, most people initially saw Clinton for the shyster and con man he was. But once he was in office he changed that so that people can’t tell the con men and shysters any more because the whole system is like that.
I would be happy if we had true minimalist gov’t that operated per the constitution. This would give all classes a chance to excel. But, this ship has already left and ain’t coming back.
“To be honest, I’m all for letting the mainstream middle class sink or swim”
Do you even know what and who the middle class is?
I second that.
Hello, USMCPop! I’ve been thinking about you since you put up a photo of your lovely son last night. Hope all is well with you.
We once understood in this country that the middle class was the backbone of western society. Without it we are a banana republic. Thanks to Washington DC and insensitive posters like this, we are on our way!
I’ve seen your shoes!
In your world view the “mainstream middle-class” is a bunch of people with ridiculous mortgages and student debt?
I’m not saying you’re wrong, that just doesn’t sound right to me. I guess I’m just old and don’t socialize with that slice of America so much. The 30-40 y.o. people I know aren’t like that at all. OK, maybe a few, but a minority. Most of the peeps I know in that demographic are like I was at that age, or my parents were at that age. They aren’t all sore losers they are just young parents with typical debt and responsibilities.
Except the ones who drive BMWs, of course :)
You’re way off track, sister.
First punish the note buyers who bundled sub-prime mortgages, and sold these worthless securities to investors via Fannie Mae. Then we can talk about punishing ordinary middle class investors.
“And the thing that still pisses me off is that Clinton would not have been electable but for Perot pulling votes away from the Republicans.”
Yep. And THESE days, when I see ANYONE shilling for Gary Johnson, I remind them of those days!
I was in the Army while Clinton was President. We lost an AMAZING number of senior NCOs (E-7 & up) and a TON of Captains that decided 10-15 years IN it wasn’t worth it to stick it out to 20, and they left for the Private Sector.
The Clintons are pigs. Absolute, money-grubbing, ME-FIRST pigs at the trough. If that beotch is elected, the wallowing at the trough will be elevated to a flippin’ art form!
*SPIT*
:)
How about we start with punishing treason and espionage and gigabuck-at-a-time larceny?
Or would that hit too close to home?
I think the 2000 pound gorilla in the room everyone misses about the ‘middle class’ is mortgage debt.
Beyond credit cards, car loans, and college debt is the fact that the middle class lives in a fantasy where their ‘home’ is considered a never-depreciating ‘asset’.
If most of your net worth is tied up in some real-estate agent’s pitch, you may be in for a rude awakening.
You want to start with a certain segment that HAS TO HAVE STATUS SYMBOL assets before dipping the entire Middle Class?
I’m referring to a certain group of people who wear & drive their wealth.
