Mixed martial arts.
Anybody with fighting experience or fighting skills can fight martial artists of other disciplines. It started off as a way to settle the question of which martial art was the best.

Me too.
I remember Andre The Giant... been a L-O-N-G time since I watched fake wrestling.=========================================
In my early teens I thought it was real. It was dumb but I had fun.

He's kind of the Justin Bieber of the UFC. By that I mean he got famous by promoting himself as a fighter on YouTube. He turned it into a career.======================================
Thanks.

That got me thinking, I was watching Shaq last night on the NBA post-game show, and hes gotten really big. I dont know if his heart is going to hold out much longer if he doesnt lose some weight.Obesity shortens life but it also destroys QUALITY of life. What a shame for him.
Former athletes often have that same problem.

No, that was “Dada 5000” (the guy who fought Kimbo) who nearly died.

Yes, it's not just the heart that works overtime, but the knees, hips etc... They aren't designed to support all of that extra weight all those years. That's why so many people start physically breaking down in their 60's and 70's when it doesn't have to be that way. I'm not even talking about fat, but also extremely large muscular guys. Your muscles may grow, but your bone structure that supports those muscles stay the same.
Guys who are ex athletes or just huge muscular guys should take note. Once you enter your 40's you should consider slimming down and shedding that muscle or fat to have a good quality of life when you enter your 60's and 70's.

Some people THINK that they won't care about that when they reach those years...but they do. Nothing wrong with staying fit, a la Jack LaLanne. He was 97 or so when he finally passed. My mother used to get up early and follow along with him.
One mantra of his I always remember:
"Ladies, remember, a moment on the lips is a lifetime on the hips."

I have not seen MMA for 15 years, since we accidentally got Pay Per View from the cable company. I saw Ultimate Fighting 1 through 8, I think - the golden age of MMA.
But I distinctly remember Tank Abbott. He was funny as hell!

Four deaths recorded totally or partially due to sanctioned MMA fights worldwide past 25 years
At least 5000 matches I’d guess
And you call for a ban?

So sad! From accounts of people who met/knew him, he was supposedly a great guy and a loving father. Wish he could have stuck around longer. Condolences to his family, friends and teammates.

Boxing is practically dead anyway. MMA is more dangerous than football and the libs want to ban that. Ban MMA first, I say.
