I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.
Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?
We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP
We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA
Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare
We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar
And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!
So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.
But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.
Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?
Like many outside FR, many of us in FR act on symbolism over substance. We are more anti-cartel/establishment than we are pro any particular conservative issue or person.
Trump positioned himself symbolically as the person most opposed by the cartel/establishment. FR reacted by supporting him.
Cruz positioned himself as the candidate of substance rather than symbolism.
We don’t want substance. We want symbolism.
It is downright blue lemonade drinking.
Boehner knows that conservatives loath him—or I should say, loath the policies he supported and enabled. Boehner is also a canny, long-time Career Politician who’s been around the block numerous times. Do not for one millisecond imagine that Boehner thought his comments would hurt Cruz. Willy Horton honestly didn’t realize that endorsing Dukakis would hurt the Duke. Boehner is not that naive.
Says the kettle.
For me the vitriol of Trump supporters and their hero worship has turned me off Trump.
Iowa cheating, supporting leftist protesters, siding with fellow serial LIAR Michelle Fields, playing politics with the Brussels attack, not realizing when to throw in the towel, support for lousy trade agreements, being in Goldman Sachs pocket, being condescending and standing for NOTHING.. Other than not being Donald Trump, which is his new campaign slogan.
I started out as a Cruz only supporter, then he started saying things with such an attitude, I started to wonder where that came from.
Then the people he was associating himself with (Bush family, Soros, etc).
Then there was a FR poster that was so in-your-face that she just made people question what was going on.
Then I found out that Heidi was on a committee to make the NORTH AMERICAN UNION.
At that point - Never Cruz!
You talk as if the 80% of people who here who aren't for Cruz 'followed Trump' in 'turning' on Cruz.
Nobody turned on Cruz.
Repeated exposure demonstrated he is not what he appeared to be at first, and further, that the appearance was not our mistake but a fraud perpetrated by him.
Cruz turned away from the world when, probably at age 4 or 5, he decided that even at the expense of others, his vision for himself was all that mattered.
It's consistent in his action, in his lack of social skills covered up by soaring rhetoric and theatrics 100% of every minute he speaks, more phony than Obama and more transparently phony, and it's consistent with growing up in a dysfunctional alcoholic family with a father who, if he's been saved as Ted claims, God help the little child that looked up to him before he was saved.
There is a difference between 'turning' on someone, and realizing what you what supported was an illusion and a fake ... and a liar who crafted that illusion ... like a champion debater crafting a case for the judgges ... and therefore moving on.
Frankly, even if Ted weren't a fraudulent candidate, Trump would be 100 times more effective. Take away the fraud and the lying, and you're still left only with a set of intellectual principles which on paper are no better nor effective than what I or any other conservative and/or Christian could come up with at a typewriter for 10 minutes - a good conservative party platform document - but in this case backed by man who should write a book on How to Lose Influence and Make People Despise You, Think You're Creepy, and Want the Uncomfortable and Awkward Conversation to End Since You're Not Listening To Them Anyway Because Your Comforting Delusion Tells You That You Are Intellectually Superior and God Has Chosen You by Raphael Cruz Jr.
“True. Cruz turned on America. He is an habitual liar.”
Unlike Donald Trump, who was born of virgin birth.
Several posts saying they don’t like Cruz, but offer no substantial reason- other than spouting “lyin Ted”. Sad.
Your own Cruzlim Botterhood started the vitriol on FR, accusing everyone who questioned Cruz or supported someone else of being leftist or un-Christian. MANY of us got whiffs of rot from Cruz at the very beginning, both as a globalist and as a sanctimonious religious fraud and false prophet.
The sickly Cruz personality cult and status as a Bush machine/GOPe Trojan horse are in the open now. As my father advised me many years ago, don’t start something you can’t finish.
Here is a little song for all the Cruzlim faithful out there:

Don’t blame others for your own flagrant, obdurate stance.
Yes. Definitely unlike Trump.
Trump has been himself throughout the entire campaign.
Scumbag Ted showed his true colors in a race into the gutter.
AND he looks super desperate. What's next from Ted? Is he going to start naming his cabinet? Ted's campaign has the stench of death, and he owes it all to his own actions.
“Hes lost- its over- go away gracefully, but go away.”
Technically it’s not over yet. People complain that our side doesn’t fight. Well, Ted is fighting. He is doing everything he can within the rules to be the nominee.
No. It was not "simply" a repeat of the CNN story. The Cruz people added to that story things that neither CNN nor the Carson campaign ever said, and spread it around as fact.
I quit supporting Cruz when he began lying....He hasn’t stopped. As I have learned more and moe about him I dislike him more and more. From his op ed with Ryan supporting TPP, his ignoring the need for a border for our nation, the hammering of Trump for leftist thug violence, and his ridiculous desperate insistence that HE should be the nominee.
From day one he played to lose. He is that smart guy in class that can memorize anything but has not ability to understand it. Like a pianist who is technically accurate buts lack emotion, Ted comes across as robotic, inartful, self centered, unsympathetic, and ego centric
Had Ted been all that we here at FR had thought he might be he would have suspended his campaign a while ago (like just after he lost the South because he refused to think that we would vote against him). That action would have shown leadership and understanding that this is not his time. Instead he drank the Glenn Beck-Raphael Sr. Kool Aid and actually seems to think he is The Anointed One.
That is it in a nutshell
Cruz was my man; I love his debating skill and fearless engagement within the Senate. I appreciate his conservative stance on many issues, including life, guns...
Although, Trump is a wildcard, I think we need to completely toss DC norms. I love that so many hate him, to the point of violence, even. I believe he will be all in for USA and not just minor adjustments and ongoing party games.
Cruz is not really a conservative champion. He is a Bush administration guy who found another government job.
He is a career government employee. He ought to return to his day job.
Ted certainly sees himself as a savior figure, being persecuted by the evil Trump (Caesar figure).
that face of god thing got him in real trouble with lots of Christian groups... but it appears to play well with the Mormon sects.
“TPP was a huge issue”
I never Trusted Cruz.
TPA showed who Cruz was to me , a fraud, con man selling out America like all the other politicians.
Trump is the only one I trust. Go Trump!
I read Trump’s books long ago! There is a video here on freerepublic that shows Trump saying the same things in interviews all throughout decades. where is that video?
Trump said the same Things about Japan ripping the USA off then as he does about China today. Factories = production = wealth creation = wealth.China has stolen our factories.
