Like many outside FR, many of us in FR act on symbolism over substance. We are more anti-cartel/establishment than we are pro any particular conservative issue or person.
Trump positioned himself symbolically as the person most opposed by the cartel/establishment. FR reacted by supporting him.
Cruz positioned himself as the candidate of substance rather than symbolism.
We don’t want substance. We want symbolism.
We dont want substance. We want symbolism.
Cruz is a talker. There's some question about whether he can actually get anything done.
It's certainly true that most of what Trump's done so far has been to talk, but he's convinced many people that he's a doer, and Cruz looks like the one contented with mere wordy symbolism.
It's not entirely fair, but when people said that a first term senator probably didn't have the experience to get things done in politics, maybe Ted should have listened.
“Cruz positioned himself as the candidate of substance rather than symbolism.
We dont want substance. We want symbolism.”
Having Glenn Beck “swear him in” and presenting him with Washington’s compass.
Constant references from his supporters about how he was sent by God, part of prophecy.
Stories about how he is a debate champion, memorized the constitution at 13 (as if that means something), blah blah blah.
Badly staged family photo-ops.
Picking a “VP” to look like a winner.
Yeah, Cruz people love them that “substance”.
