Many societies, especially those of the Americas and China, have a history of using cayenne pepper therapeutically. A powerful compound with many uses, cayenne pepper is currently gaining buzz for cleansing and detoxifying regimes such as the Master Cleanse, which uses the spice to stimulate circulation and neutralize acidity.
Cayenne pepper has been used for a variety of ailments including heartburn, delirium, tremors, gout, paralysis, fever, dyspepsia, flatulence, sore throat, atonic dyspepsia, hemorrhoids, menorrhagia in women, nausea, tonsillitis, scarlet fever and diphtheria.
1. Anti-Irritant Properties
Cayenne has the ability to ease upset stomach, ulcers, sore throats, spasmodic and irritating coughs, and diarrhea.
2. Anti-Cold and Flu Agent
Cayenne pepper aids in breaking up and moving congested mucus. Once mucus begins to leave the body, relief from flu symptoms generally follows.
3. Anti-Fungal Properties
The results of one study indicated that cayenne pepper could effectively prevent the formation of the fungal pathogens phomopsis and collectotrichum [1].
4. Migraine Headache Prevention
This may be related to the peppers ability to stimulate a pain response in a different area of the body, thus reverting the brains attention to the new site. Following this initial pain reaction, the nerve fibers have a depleted substance P (the nerves pain chemical), and the perception of pain is lessened.
5. Anti-Allergen
Cayenne is an anti- agent and may even help relieve allergies.

Have some gnocchi.
[OJ plus Magnesium.]
I’m just a guy who found the info on google BTW. Very obscure information right now, but I believe it will revolutionize treatment of constipation.
I can’t advise you what to do, but I sometimes take two magnesiums while drinking extra OJ. But only when I plan on no long road trips, etc.
There will be some hard stools at first. Try not to push. Just let osmosis soften things up as much as you can stand. Long term constipation leads to very hard stools at the ‘exit’. But everything behind it softens up. That’s been my experience.
Magnesium also reduces inflamation of the arteries. Tight arteries get clogged. When they loosen up, they unclog more easily. But if you have seriously clogged arteries, your doctor might not approve of magnesium because ‘whammo’, they suddenly cause all kinds of junk to fly around in your blood stream.
All speculative on my part.
‘I eat a high fiber diet but could always enjoy a faster digestive track.’
Grain based fiber is an ‘agitant’ as I understand it. It agitates the system which is unhealthy in the long run if your goal is to fight constipation. A body will eventually give up fighting it.
~~~
BTW ...
Did you ever feel your sinuses flow after your constipation ends? I’m no doctor, but I trained myself ot be ‘highly introspective’ when I want to be. I suspect allergents get trapped in the body. When the flood gates of the colon open, your body feels a massive release of allergants, and [just speculating], the sinuses are freed up to clear themselves. Wonderful feeling, but messy.
Moderation is best with grain.
LOVE gnocchi!!! mother used to make home made.
The cinnamon is of GREAT help to those with diabetes. At one time was on dosage of cholesterol meds. In addition to their adverse side effects of joint pain, dementia,they caused the sugar level to spike obscenely. For one week had teaspoon cinnamon daily, swallowed and a switch of cool water/swallow, following. In a week’s time the points of sugar level went down so drastically the nurses were amazed at the results that were seen. Cinnamon helps with sugar levels in some persons ... most definitely!
It was recently discovered that nearly half of Californians had high blood sugard. Somwhere around 45% if I remember correctly. [Lost link.]
Cinnamin is just as important as a moderate diet.
Pintos or red beans. With can of stewed tomatoes, polish sausage (cut in chunks) ground, dried chili pepper, jalapeno, garlic, chopped onions Spicy V8 and a splash of broth; simmered all day. That and a plate of hot corn bread is one of the best winter meals God ever created.
A happy stomache
Oh, I take that for cholesterol, but I admit I only remember it half the time. I didn’t know it was good for blood pressure, too.
Will try the magnesium/OJ thing ASAP.
It’s always something! One medication leads to another and another and another and another. Not that some are NOT needed, but there always seem to be side effects that are not foreseen. Tylenol also leads to kidney damage. Migraine or kidney failure: we have a choice!
Add the fact that many of a certain age are on warfarin/Coumadine limits the choices available. Not only in meds taken but in foods chosen to eat.
The only way to eat SOME beans is in a mixture like this. Butter beans (gag); black beans, ok but really?; split peas- never met one I really liked.
In Texas a local cannery made the staple “RANCH STYLE BEANS” This can of beans can be used in so many ways. Not very healthy (sodium issue) but they are so good. Brown some ground beef, add spices, drain, add a can of RSB, some cooked rice (prefer white rice) chopped jalapeno, onion, bell pepper and simmer about 15 or 20 minutes. Delish! Eat as is, on corn chips or flour tortillas with cheese and/or salsa.
Very high percentage. Many Mexicans find they are diabetic prone. Might be the carbs they favor rather than the sugar. Both seem to be an issue with this disease.
I particularly love hummus (make mine with natural peanut butter and a splash of Sriracha instead of tahini).
I love chips (and all breads and starches) but don't eat them so I can stay thin. I am an exercise fanatic but if I eat starches, I immediately start to gain weight.
About once every other month I'll lose it and go out for a Wendy's or Hardy's double cheeseburger with large fries...but most of the time I have the diet thing under control.
I splurge every once in a while. :)
You can make tasty, healthy dishes.
