Pregnancy rates are especially high on support vessels. The repair ship USS Puget Sound was such a love boat it became known as the USS Pubic Mound.
Actually, McQueen was a Marine and not a sailor (he was part of President Truman’s honor guard), and women have been sailors since the WAVES branch of the USNR was formed in 1942.
In that picture from “Sand Pebbles,” McQueen is most definitely a sailor.
