MONDAY, April 4, 2016 -- Regular doses of vitamin D3 may improve heart function in heart failure patients, a new British study suggests. "These findings could make a significant difference to the care of heart failure patients," said study leader Dr. Klaus Witte, from the University of Leeds School of Medicine. "It is the first evidence that vitamin D3 can improve heart function of people with heart muscle weakness -- known as heart failure."

I take 2000 units a day, keeps nails from breaking.
I take one 1000-IU Vitamin D3 tablet a day.
I live in the northeast, where there isn’t much sunlight in the winter. I found that it had a very positive effect on morning stiffness I experienced after sleeping in one position for hours.
However, it is not true that it “has no negative effects.”
Vitamin D is actually a hormone, not a vitamin. More accurately, your body metabolizes vitamin D into a hormone, called 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol). This is a calcium-regulating hormone.
Taking too much can cause kidney stones, especially in those predisposed to that condition.
I have had kidney stones, so I get a urological workup once a year.

Unfortunately that is not correct.
I know someone who spends hours in the sun, working in her garden and tests showed she was still deficient in vit. D. Her doctor recommended that she takes vit D supplements, which she is now doing.
I did that once. Just once. Walked from the train station four blocks to a diner. I thought I was having four root canals being done with no anesthetic. It was minus four. With wind.
I take 10,000iu daily in winter...but I live in the Northwest

A few years back, my VA provider told me to take Vitamin D everyday. Now I know why and glad I followed her advice.
I don’t even see the sun for 10 months out of the year. LOL!

Good point...if you take Vit D...you need Vit K...or you may end up with “hardening of the arteries”

It’s the wind that got you. Minus four isn’t too bad if you had a good jacket, gloves and warm footwear.
It is recommended that one take Vitamin K2 in conjunction with D3. I take 100mcg K2 and 5,000 iu of D3 daily.
