PHOENIX (KPHO/KTVK) - A terrible case of animal abuse half a world away will have a happy ending in Phoenix.

Animal welfare activists in South Korea rescued a 2-year-old golden retriever mix from a black trash bag on the street.

They said she was part of an underground dog-meat market, but was thrown out after her paws became wounded and infected. The "butcher" thought her meat would be rancid, according to the rescuers.

The group named her Chi Chi.

What a ridicules waste of money. There are hundreds of thousands of children going hungry and living on the streets around the world but we’ll waste thousands of dollars on a dog.

Flame away spoiled Americans.

“...a dog like that you don’t eat all at once.”

[Yes, I’m going straight to hell.]

No paws??????

I figured this would be a link about test tube dog pups.

Funny how ‘we’ say ‘we’ must embrace the culture of women being treated as chattel but get our shorts in an uproar about the food supply.

Sure the Indians have some second thoughts of us eating cow.

I have never knowingly eaten dog BUT spent enough time in Korea that I more than likely nibbled on BBQ dog or whatever flavor was being ‘passed out’ on street corners or the local ‘slop chute’.

Having eaten from street corner vendors in many parts of the world I would not be able to say I have NEVER eaten whatever ‘delicacy’ one may bring up.

I spent thousands to rescue dogs. It was my money, my choice, and I have no regrets. Spend ** your ** money to feed children. Freedom is about personal choices last time I checked.

Don’t be such a liberal.

I agree. Love a dog more than a human? Fine. It’s part of being free.

Die hard animal lover here. I think it’s absolutely wonderful. All of our animals are rescues or strays. We work hard & we choose to give to animals. We contribute to the food pantry too.

I used to get guilted out when someone would bring up the super lame line, “What about the starving children?” Not anymore. We all choose our causes. I teach & spend a lot on my class. It’s my money. Go Nanny state elsewhere!

NOT funny. As you well know there has been no paws from South Korea on a number of critical issues including human rights abuses under Kim Jong, and indeed, the naming of Korean kids “Kim.”

Just went to your site. Awesome pictures, loved the one of you & your niece w/ the dogs. Timber was a beauty! We have a 15+ year old mostly Australian shepherd ( I was walking around the square in town & this adorable hippie couple, really young, were standing in front of the local record store looking for someone to take her. They found her in the woods. She was a little thing. We hand feed her now. She had a stroke, but our girl is hanging on & even wrestles w/ our puppy. They become a part of us forever don’t they?

Can’t bear to read the story or think about dogs used as meat- glad this animal was saved.

I got into a huge fight on the way to NOLA some years ago with a government worker teacher when I made the mention cultures are NOT created equal.

She is the kind of “teacher educating” the kids of folks whose priorities are NOT educating their kids.

(their priorities are: the latest iPhone, nice cars, nice homes, nice vacations, nice clothes, on, and on, and on)
