I live in Missouri, the state Trump won by less than 2,000 (the last I heard). I had been saying all along that Id be voting for Ted Cruz, mainly because he says hes a Christian. But on the day of our election this week, I could not do it, I voted for Trump... knowing full well his foibles. Heres the short story of my transformation:
I am a Christian man in my sixties, have not always been the best I could be, either as a man or a Christian, but I do try, sometimes. Months and even years back I saw Cruz as one of the only ones in DC who was standing for what I believe; I thought then, if he runs for POTUS, hes got my vote. However, the more Ive heard him speak, the less I've liked him, not because of the content of what he says, he says mostly the right things, but its the way in which he says them... inauthentic, insincere, disingenuous; these are words that describe my emotions when I see the expression on his face when he speaks, and then theres that stupid little half-smile after he says a one line-er to applause... ick!
Right up until the day of the election, Tuesday, I had never really understood how instrumental Cruz was in giving us John Roberts, Chief Justice of the supreme court (the man that literally delivered Obamacare to the nation as law). The day of our election, I looked up an article from a Texas news/paper/mag, that railed on Cruz because he was one of the biggest voices selling John Roberts to the nation. Unfortunately for Cruz, I read that article before voting on Tuesday... that is mostly what sealed the deal, against voting for him.
Cruz may be a moral man, but the devil used him to help sink our nation to where we are today; moral maybe, but not wise. Why the hell would I want that man in the White House.
Comparatively, Trump is not what I'd call a moral man, at least by biblical standards, but we know that about him, its a given... hes not trying to gloss over his, well, fallenness; he is what he is... I dumped Cruz for Trump. I made that decision within about two hours before I voted. It's not easy to explain but I felt a sense of freedom when I voted for Trump. My brother who is a Baptist pastor was nearly apoplectic when I told him I voted for Trump, he wanted me to feel very, very guilty, but I dont, I actually feel quite good about it.
Adding to that, there is the "inbetween-the-lines" reasons that swung me to Trump. The biggest? All the entities that we conservatives and Christians see as our mortal opposition, the MSM, DC Elite, Republican Establishment, Liberal Progressives, Black Lives Matter, and now, Fox News have been trying to destroy Trump... "the enemy (Trump) of my enemy (the above noted) is my friend". I know their hatred of me and all that I hold dear, so when I see them descend on Trump with the same ferocity that I know they hold toward me and my kind, I count Trump as my kind. And now out of desperation, Ted Cruz seems to be siding with the enemy, not my kind... phooey on that!
Trump is not claiming Messiahship, like Obama does, and like Ted seems to imply (the savior of Conservatism), Trump is Trump! And you know what, I like that... as brash and unsavory as he may seem, compared to the PC Elites, Trump is more like me than anything I have seen!
It felt good to vote for Trump... I feel like a feminist freed from her bra strap, free at last, free at last...
Sorry it was where I was 6 months ago.
Whether it is selling us out on TPA/Corker or selling us out to Jeb/Ryan... CRUZ will sell us out.
Hey now!
He speaks plainly but has obviously a huge IQ which he seems able to access.
He will correct you on the spot and even the Press knows not to eff with him because you won’t get away with anything with him.
The debates with Hillary are going to be a blast.
Sure Hillary will get the questions ahead of time, but Trump will take the debate sideways and will have Hillary so off her game that she will pear brittle and too weak to be President.
My wife and I both voted for Trump and will vote for him again if he’s nominated.
One of the pastors at the church I attend wrote a rant comparing Trump to Hitler and saying he is in the neverTrump camp. It was disturbing to hear that from him.
Appear...
Can’t stand alone these self correcting devices that change context.
You have managed to explain a lot about “why Trump?”
Trump is when you finally realize that the friends you have been hanging out with haven’t been very good friends.
Trump is when you are tired of trying to back this perfect pious person and sitting around waiting for one “dirty secret” to emerge to slam the guy off the pedestal of sanctimony.
Trump is liberation because you can back him and accept his imperfections and still like the guy for his blunt honesty and sense of humor.
By the way, that is the reason he has done so well, people aren’t fazed by dirt on him because they know he isn’t perfect and have chosen to not follow the usual smear tactics by the media and the Uniparty.
No.
The Robert’s support is insignificant. Surely, it’s everything else about the man. If Cruz blaming the Bernie mob on Trump doesn’t churn your stomach, then nothing will. Even bringing the Bush crowd into his campaign is insignificant to that. Cruz is really the worst of the worst because of his usage of the Church.
Didn’t Cruz write an editorial in support of Roberts?
I don’t blame Cruz for Roberts so much as I blame him for his sneaky behavior in the Senate...and in fact even just getting elected to the Senate and “forgetting” to mention that he was a Canadian. And that isn’t all...his sneaky votes, his lies on the campaign trail.
I just don’t like the guy.
LOL!! Literally. :)
You must be fun to come home to! :)
It’s so refreshing to see that people “get it” and can see why Cruz is so toxic and business as usual for the establishment.
It’s really Trump and his supporters against the brainwashed world who are perpetuating the same oppressive policies that have abandoned America and the middle class in favor of globalism and constant cheap labor.
The Uniparty is strong and it’s tentacles have a grasp on everything, even a great number of people here. It will take a Herculean effort to win this one but we have a candidate up for the task. God bless him.. He’s going to need it.
I live in Missouri, and I’ve always felt that a man who went out of his way to make sure you know he’s a Christian, probably isn’t.
If Trump is elected I look forward to having you come back in two years and seeing how you feel it turned out for you.
Its not enough to say you prefer Trump. You must find Cruz evil incarnate to join the club.
Comparatively, Trump is not what I'd call a moral man, at least by biblical standards, but we know that about him, its a given
Have you seen some of the dudes God chose to be leaders in the Bible? Some of them make Trump look like a saint! :D
Read my post. I am not for Trump.
To blame Ted Cruz for the failure of Roberts is dishonest.
I agree with you entirely. My comments are directed at others, like those who are questioning Cruz’s faith while at the same time accusing him of being holier than thou.
No problem... I don’t see him as messiah material, I see him as a man. If he acts like a man throughout his presidency, I’m sure I’ll have some disappointments, but if he’s a man, and not a quisling, he’ll keep my vote... not saying my assessment is gospel, just sayin “what is” at this time.
Thank you for sharing your story, it brought great comfort to my heart. We need to clean house and fix the country from the years of political decay and Trump is the only one who can do this...
