Dear Trump Supporters
Although I am not particularly enamored with Donald Trump (the ideas Cruz espouses are closer to my own), I absolutely understand and appreciate the dynamic behind Trump's meteoric rise and probable victories in the GOP nomination and the November election. I have posted before on FR about the importance of eradicating the Republican Party, so perhaps Trump is the vehicle for that necessary Schumpeterian creative destruction.
What does fascinate me is the hostility towards Cruz from ostensibly conservative folks who happen to be supporting Trump. I do not really care about the specifics of the animus but note that it approaches a quality that genuinely befuddles me. Having been at FR since the Xlintoon regime I am pretty confident that the hostility heaped on Hellary and Bubba pales in comparison to that currently aimed at Cruz. (I went back and read some random threads from back in the day.)
So here is my genuine question for Trump supporters: what was your attitude towards Cruz a year ago, before the entry of Trump into the race? I recall Cruz being lionized on FR and throughout the conservatosphere for being one of the two or three Senators willing to stand in the way of the Uniparty agenda.
Great question...
And starting from that myopic premise is why you wrongly think Cruz supporters are "reasonable" and Trump supporters, not....
While I recognize that some Trump supporters have been nasty, my feeling is that the Cruz supporters consistently took the nasty stuff to a new level. Of course, your mileage may vary.
But with Glenn Beck and Romney and Neil Bush supporting Cruz, I frankly see him as the most Establishment of the two guys left in the race. Im anti-Establishment, so Im staying with Trump.
Same here.
“The Trumpsters are a Cult, just like Jim Jones and the People’s Temple.
They’ve drank the kool-aid and you better not condemn their savior.”
Hmm..I am in no cult I am Southern Baptist :), I drank no kool-aid. I only have one savior, and you come across as a little bit of a jerk. Maybe you could work on that.
Yes, I was a jerk, sorry.
Same here, I sent Cruz $ early on.
I wrongly got carried away, sorry, FRiend.
It’s okay! We all are sometimes! I forgive you!
>>>As a theologian, I seem differently than just political. He is a liar, a false Christian who espouses false doctrine (dominionism) and acts like a televangelist who trades on the name of Christ to get votes.
Thank you for your post. His religious stuff totally freaked me out and I was thinking I must have missed the boat.
Does this mean we won’t be getting those “end time wealth transfer” payments his dad spoke of?
I also think as a politician he seems smarmy. He may be better suited for the judicial system.
Too much has been lost for a doctrinaire conservative to bring it back. We need to destroy the GOPe and restructure a power base based on traditional values and free market capitalism, then maybe a Cruz could take over. I can appreciate his strengths without believing he is the right man for the job at this time.
I didn’t pay much attention to Cruz, although I thought him a decent enough fellow; didn’t like some of his votes; figured he’d never try for president since he’s not a natural born citizen.
As soon as he announced, I didn’t like it at all since he’s a trained lawyer and supposedly Constitutional expert.
Now in the last half year or more I’ve come to utterly abhor him as he has revealed himself as an extremely dishonest oily GOPe insider pretending not to be who is willing to lie about anything. And hiding documents despite FOI requests, about his citizenship situation.
When I hear trump give his plan on hannity right now, he makes sense. When I hear Cruz say he’s going to revoke common core first day with no plan to replace especially in January middle of a school year it doesn’t make sense and would not work. I want common core gone but in January? Ridiculous.
No problem...I do it too...
I know there are exceptions...some real schnooks, but most here just want best for the country.
Thank you, I can truly relate to and appreciate your reply.
It may be sort of like Carson who was viewed by many as a peacemaker candidate, when what we needed was a wartime leader.
Time will tell if Trump is that leader. I think not but pray that I am wrong.
How do you know that?
As a fellow Texan I supported Cruz in his senate run against Dewhurst. Once Ted got into the senate I started to notice that he, like all of DC, was playing a role as an outsider without really being an outsider. His entire act was simply theater. All bark with zero leadership.
Throughout this presidential campaign the mask has slowly been coming off and now he openly embraces the establishment without an ounce of apology. The dude is the worst type of insider, a lying, manipulative insider that wants to take your trust and use it against you. On top of that he likely isn’t even eligible to be president as his situation is the same as Obama’s ,if it was proven that Obama was born in Kenya.
Trump has oodles and oodles or warts but he is the absolute answer in my opinion to blow up the cartel (that Ted is now openly cozied up to).
Same as it is now, just another politician.
I was flipping between Cruz and Trump.
Anti-Washington for me ONLY.
Cruz lost me with Glenn Beck.
Then, when I read about the NAU, his wife’s job, and his close relationship with GOPe, I became personally offended that I was close to being made a fool of yet again by a lying politician claiming to be anti-establishment.
applause. Dead on right.
