Donald Trump said today he may ask the federal judge overseeing an upcoming civil fraud trial involving the now defunct Trump University to recuse himself because he is Hispanic and is therefore biased against him due to his plan to build a wall to keep out immigrants from Mexico.
Trump first raised the idea of filing a motion to recuse U.S. Judge Gonzalo Curiel during a campaign rally on Saturday in which, without mentioning him by name, the Republican candidate said the judge overseeing his case has shown “tremendous hostility” to him. “He’s Hispanic, which is fine,” Trump said.
“Why would you need to ask for a recusal and what does his ethnicity have to do with it?” moderator Chuck Todd asked Trump during an appearance on “Meet the Press” Sunday morning. “Because I think he’s been very, very unfair with us,” Trump replied. “ I think the judge has been extremely unfair. This is a case that many, many, many people said should have been thrown out on summary judgment. We have 98 percent approval. We have an A from the Better Business Bureau. “
“And you think it’s because he is Hispanic?” Todd asked. Trump’s reply: “Well because of the wall, and because of everything that’s going with Mexico and all of that, I think it’s frankly – look, this is a judge who has treated me very, very unfairly. This is a case that should have been thrown out a long time ago in the opinion of many great lawyers.”
Curiel, who was born in East Chicago, Ind., and graduated from Indiana University and Indiana University Law School, was nominated to the federal bench President Obama in 2011 – and approved by the Senate the next year by voice vote without opposition.

An upsetting number of home grown Hispanics are supporting their ethnicity above all else, law, justice, the nation, Etc.
He might be correct.
Given the level of HATRED that Hispanic leaders have towards Trump and his policies of BUILDING THE WALL and DEPORTING THE ILLEGALS, I would like someone here to tell me how he can expect a fair trail from one of their judges.

This is about as welcome a hit job on Trump and seeing the nostrils flare on the pointy nose of that little ***** Rich Lowry who comes on FOX with the Trump-haters and talks up a sales job already he has lost or thinks he is a great comedic on Red Eye which is a show that has become so off the mark I think most agree that it should be dropped from the schedule.
There is a new Gang of Eight. They are those like Lowry, Kelly, et all, who hate the Republican base and spew this garbage that the base is racist because they want to have borders and want to build the wall.
And the wall will be built, cry racist all you want.

That’s quite a revelation.
I believe Trump is really playing with fire here, because if another judge does take the case, no matter what his ethnic group might be, he will need to bend over backwards to show he is tough on Trump. I gotta think Trump’s own lawyers are cringing at the statement.
Yes, most Hispanic politicians appear to support some form of amnesty or “immigration reform.” Thanks for pointing out the inconvenient, un-PC fact that some of Trump’s detractors appear to be skirting.
I’m sorry, you’re mistaken. During Donald’s rally yesterday he was stating that the judge was very unfair to him and that he was a “Hispanic judge.” Someone probably signaled him at that time that he went too far, because he quickly stated, “and that’s fine.”
But it was Donald who brought up the judge’s ethnicity. And I know this because I was listening to his rally live and couldn’t believe he would be so legally clueless as to make that kind of inflammatory statement against a judge in an ongoing civil case against him.
