A police officer shot a 16-year-old boy when he refused to drop the broomstick he was holding in Salt Lake City last night.
The officer was responding to an unrelated call in the Utah capital at 8.15pm when his team spotted two teenagers arguing with a man, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
Surrounding them, police allegedly told the boy to drop what he was holding - part of a broomstick. When he did not, 'shots were fired'. The boy was hit in the chest and the stomach.

He’s been in the US for 10 years - most of his life
Are we sure it wasn’t really a boomstick?
“Mohamed’s friend, Selam Mohammed, who was stood next to him at the time, claims the officers only gave the boy one chance to drop the broomstick in his hand.”
A muslime and a son of barack. . .what’s not to believe?
Period.
Maybe the perp..refused to stop?
Maybe the cop couldn't know that the perp had "extra weapons" on his body?
Maybe the perp..wouldn't obey any commands..and kept beating the victim?
I dunno..Do you?
Do you own a gun?
Must be choked up with disgust.
Or something.
The not 16 year old boy was named Abdi Mohamed.
Hmmmmmmmmmm
Yet I must add a question of my own: Wouldn't it be a good idea for every cop to carry a bean bag shotgun in the trunk of his car?
He is a Somali who came here with his family from a refugee camp in Kenya in 2004.
And, he had been in court repeatedly before this incident.
“...In court, Lund told Mohamed she was frustrated by the situation because she had seen him in her courtroom multiple times since he was 12. She advised him to take advantage of the counseling, despite the fact that a caseworker’s report had concluded he would not. Lund wished him luck....”

The weapon was a metal broomstick, and he was in the process of robbing a man with it.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 23, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Abdullahi “Abdi” Mohamed, whose shooting by Salt Lake City Police officers sparked international headlines and local protests, has accepted a plea deal to resolve his juvenile court case.
The original charges against Mohamed were aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and drug possession with intent to distribute, a second-degree felony. Prosecutors also tried to get the cased moved to the adult court system, where penalties were potentially more harsh, but failed in that attempt.....

One kid put his weapon down as soon as the cop ordered it. Abdi did not, and advanced on the cop.
....Mohamed was 17 years old on Feb. 27, 2017 [should read 2016], when police spotted him beating a man with a metal broom handle. When Mohamed did not immediately respond to commands to stop, officers shot him.
One officer later admitted to believing the metal handle was a sword. A review board has since cleared the two officers of any wrongdoing in the case.
According to charging documents, Mohamed, then 17, was beating a man who had asked to buy a marijuana cigarette from him for $1.10. Mohamed told the man he was selling meth, and became angry when the man handed him the broomstick, according to court documents. ...—— Abdi Mohamed, shot by Salt Lake City police in 2016, accepts plea deal in juvenile court case

“ He said he went into the pit and behaved like a mad dog, got a pat on the ass by the DI.”
When I did that the first time my DI put me in the pit with the biggest guy in the platoon. He outweighed me by 40 pounds at least and was 6 inches taller. Now I’d been run ragged, PT’d until I thought I was going to die. I was scared and angry and pretty much spoiling for a fight.
When the command to fight was given I just uncorked. I mean I went absolutely out house rat crazy. The next thing I knew my DI was pulling me off this poor recruit. He was dazed and bloody.
I had tears streaming down my face and he was screaming at me “That’s how it’s done, Privates! It ain’t the size of the dog in the fight it’s the size of the fight in the dog that matters!”
I’ve never forgotten that.
